Hi. I have Ibanez Blazer MiJ in 1981 and it's from ash. Its so bright sounding guitar. I'm playing doom/sludge with my band, so i tuned it to drop A and get heavy strings and fat fuzz, but clean sound from bridge pickup don't enough powerful and deep. I'm thinking about buy a SLUG pickup.
Is it good idea to put this one to ash strat ??
I know that sludge and doom mostly playing on les pauls, but I don't like les pauls clean sound so i won't change guitar. I love my guitar and like its sond but now I just want to adapt this guitar for music what i play.
So, SLUG pickup will help me or maybe better INVADER or other pickup?
Will my Ibanez save own sound but make it more doomy or it'll be awful?
Please let me know if you had similar expirience.

Keep in mind that the Slug is a slightly bigger pickup, so you may have to modify the route of your guitar or pickguard. The Invader will certainly work in a regular humbucker housing. The Slug seems more in line of what you are want to do with it, although it is a Custom Shop pickup. Do you use a neck pickup at all?

I did not have to modify the routes at all. A Pickguard would certainly have to be routed. The Slug neck is pretty cool too.

Just wanted to follow-up here, if you are worried about issues with normal pickguard routing and want a standard version without the blades that sounds very similar, ask for the SON OF SLUG. Also, 7+8 string and is a little brighter but otherwise similar.

Is there any more info or demos of son of slug?

Re: SLUG ON ASH STRAT

If you definitely want that tone from your existing setup, go with the slug.

If you are open to getting that tone from a pedal, try the Wampler SLOstortion.

EDIT: Hi again...sorry...I got interrupted at work. The reason I recommended a pedal to you in your thread about a pickup is that the sound you are looking for is specifically created by how the amp is overdriven past the point of oblivion. It's really hard to get that sound naturally unless you are willing to kill a few brain cells. I'm not sure that just the pickup will do it even though it is rated with an output of...like...a billion.

Anyway...I just wanna see you get where you wanna go with minimal hassles.

See you.

I have great ambient reverb + mxr m134 chorus to make low frequencies wider and deeper and i already ordered pharaoh fuzz, cause my one isn't so heavy. So i'm waiting for faraoh and slug, in theory it'll be amazing mix =)
