SM-3B Output Level

Hi, I'm trying to dial in some presets for my guitar that has an SM-3B in the bridge.
I'm finding that to get a high gain tone I really have to boost the hell out of the amp. It also gets really noisy and never really loses the twang.
Is this typical for this pickup?
The guitar in question is the Schecter Ultra.
What's the difference in output between this and a JB?
Thanks!

Re: SM-3B Output Level

Mini's have the thinner tone, thats just them. A humbucker which sees less of the string will never really sound like a full sized humbucker. The SM3 pickup is 11K, and at that K rating it will be 43 gauge wire, meaning this is like a hotter PAF wind. A JB is like having a 14K wind of the same 43 Gauge wire, and seeing more string which gives a wider tone.

Thanks for the reply!

I did some messing with this over the weekend, and it's really strange, but when I back off on my volume knob a bit, it actually loses some of the twang without affecting the gain as much as you'd think. Really weird.
