take your flanger, turn all the RES and MANUAL knobs to zero, set rate quite low..

presto, its a chorus pedal :13:

its a nice little easter egg, id have thought a lot of you guys would have know it, but the two circuits are incredibly similar..

still, have a go and see how it sounds

Re: Small Flanger tip i picked up..

Thanks for the tip Imp! Whilst I have a shoddy MT-2 and a PW-10 Wah which honestly hasn't seen much action (gotta try and find some good uses for it at my mates house), if I ever want to purchase another pedal I'll consider a flanger!

Re: Small Flanger tip i picked up..

try and avoid the BF-2, its very boxy sounding for my ears, i struggle to find a musical context for it i like..

and you turn the rate and depth knobs all the way down as well, you're left with a really odd 'slapback-ish' delay sound..

Re: Small Flanger tip i picked up..

the bf-2 is sounds better to me than the ibanez CF7. the DOD fx75c stereo flanger is very thick and chorusy. i have tried that on the dod and it does sound good but very thick. just giving my 2 cents.

Re: Small Flanger tip i picked up..

i guess i'm looking for different things, i like a flanger to have a really wide, expansive, clean-ish tone.. i havn't tried it through other amps though, i guess that plays a big part..

and i havnt tried the ibanez pedals hehe

Re: Small Flanger tip i picked up..

Here's another tip..though not for a Flanger.

On my old Boss Phaser (PE-2 or whatever), if you go into the normal "phase" mode (not that crazy funk thing), and set all the knobs off you are blessed with a really cool Randy Rhoads type tone or another good example would be the intro sound on Yngwie's "Queen is in Love" off Trilogy.

Just a really cool sound..kinda scoopy, but not scoopy like NUmetal...like a wah wah about 1/3 depressed.

Question for you: are you using your flange into the front of your amp, or are you using the effects return?

I have noticed a great improovement ussing the flanger in the effects loop compared to the direct plug. I do have the BF-2 and it is a high quality sounding box to my ears....

Re: Small Flanger tip i picked up..

and they can be modded to be less boxy. Actually with a switch you can get this whacked-out detuned sound with them that's killer.

Re: Small Flanger tip i picked up..

Turn the manual and depth all the way down, turn the res up, and you get what almost sounds like a sitar.

What controls are equivalent to the ones on my Ibanez FL-9?
Is depth the same as width? is res the same as regen? and what about the delay time and speed?

speed doesn't even matter. Once the width is all the way down and the regeneration is all the way up you'll get it. Although I don't have the Ibie Flanger so I can't make any promises. But that should do it. You can experiment with delay time.
