smaller Explorer case?

Does anybody know if anyone makes a smaller, more form-fitting hard case for a Gibson Explorer? I've searched online and have only found gig bags...I'd like a little more protection than that. I love my Explorer but find myself not taking it to gigs much since it's hard to fit it in my little car with all my gear...thing is the size of a small bed.. haha.

A guy in my area used to transport his Epiphone Korina Explorer in a RokSak gigbag intended to fit that specific shape.

IMO, the inconvenience of that vast hardshell case is preferrable to the inconvenience of finding the headstock cracked off.

agreed FF..gig bags are an absoloute no-no for Gibsons. I want the thing to be protected in a hard case. I was just wondering if someone figured out how to make one that is a little smaller.. seems like a lot of wasted space angling the whole guitar like that.

I have an Explorer and the case is huuuuuuuge. It would be nice to have one smaller.

I agree. the case is a PITA.. never seen any alternative tho other than the Rocsak. Had a Carvin V220 and that case was also huge and heavy as an anvil. The Rocsak (sp?) is the only thing that would fit it.. Its a nice bag, but wouldnt trust it to protect the headstock of my explorer

No easy answer to Explorer style guitar case size really. Wanna play the big dawg ya gotta protect the big dawg. With the cross width at least 27 inches that body needs a big case.

My guess would be the SKB as well. I've heard they are pretty solid and... what's supposed to be weird about that shape ?

not meaning to hijack this thread, but i would love to find a smaller case for my BC-R BICH,i hate the square cases.

I have to stand my guitar cases on end to save room. This doesn't look like it has a right angle at the bottom corner. Just a consideration and by no means a showstopper...
