Smoothest Neck Pickup?

What are some really smooth sounding neck pickups. I guess i mean without alot of initial attack. But it needs to be articulate. It would be for shred in a basswood guitar under high gain. (humbucker)

While I don't think of it as being a shred pickup, the Seth Lover is fat and smooth. Lew

How bad does the Seth squeal under high gain since it isn't wax-potted?

Mine doesn't squeel at all. But if you'd like one that's wax potted, no problemo! Thanks, Lew

Re: Smoothest Neck Pickup?

I have Seth Lovers in my Les Paul, (and they do not squeal). They are the best sounding PAF humbucker I have used, and I have used quite a few. I would highly recommend these PU for anyone wanting a classic LP tone.

Re: Smoothest Neck Pickup?

These pickups would be great for my Dean Evo, but i dont know if they have the output for shred leads and i dont know how they are under distortion. Do they perform well under high gain?

Re: Smoothest Neck Pickup?

The APH is AMAZING under high gain. It stays smooth and articulate, not matter how much gain I throw at it. If you want smooth....that is it baby.

Re: Smoothest Neck Pickup?

APH-1N Alnico II Pro. Smooth as buttah :)

Re: Smoothest Neck Pickup?

DiMarzio Air Norton is smooth and can also give you sqealing harmonics when you shred in the neck position although I find it muddy on a mahogany based 22 fret guitar.

Re: Smoothest Neck Pickup?

Cool, whatever i chose, it would go in an RG321 mahogany. I dont really want an agressive sound in the neck, thats what the bridge is for :)

Re: Smoothest Neck Pickup?

I got a 59 neck and its pretty damn smooth. It does seem to have quite a pit of pick-attack though, but I don't mind that.

Probably not what you're after.

Re: Smoothest Neck Pickup?

id go seth, think iron maiden killers type tones w/ high gain- smooth, wailing, very discernable notes (unlike the mudfest many shredders bask in these days)

Re: Smoothest Neck Pickup?

I'll add a vote for both the DiMarzio Air Norton and the Seymour Duncan Alnico II Pro.

Re: Smoothest Neck Pickup?

I'll give the Air Norton some more props. It's my favorite neck pickup thus far. :)
