Snagged up a Line 6 DL4

I do believe all my delay and echo needs have just been satisfied. I saw an ad on a local Craig's list for a used DL4 echo module, bought it, the original adapter, and the "Expression" foot pedal that plugs into it for $175. After pulling the DanEcho and Guyatone micro delay off the board to make room for this bad boy at the end of my effects foodchain before hitting the DRRI, and tweaking around with it for the last hour and a half I can say it's a very top notch modeler. I still need to play with it more but it's the best I've ever owned so far.
It works fine as a pedal on the board, but if my amp had an effects loop I'd definitely use that for the DL4 and modulating effects. The Expression foot controller is kind of cool to play around with as it causes two seperate delay settings in the module to morph together....things can get pretty spacy. I am going to get into it's 13 second loop function next time and see what that's all about.
Nice piece of equipment.

Cool score, I've wanted one for awhile. I got a Digitech Digidelay, with a 4 second loop, and it's made me want the DL-4 even worse :)

worth it for the looping alone, you can also get a chorus, slow gear, auto-wah and overdrive out of it if you set the knobs right. certainly my favorite pedal.

it definitely covers a spectrum of effects, just about anything associated with delay.

I love mine. I stick to the tube tape echo, and the Deluxe Memory Man models mainly.
Even though I bought it new at Guitar Center, I still think it a bargain.

Mincer's Christmas vid-clips were AMAZING examples of how to use the DL4.

Re: Snagged up a Line 6 DL4

thanks Les, I appreciate the support!

for a chorus, use mod delay...no repeats, no dry signal (or just a little) delay time 0...you can use exp pedal to sweep the speed (tweak)

for an auto wah, use sweep delay...no repeats, all wet signal, delay time 0..you can use exp pedal to sweep the speed (tweak)

for overdrive, use tube echo no repeats, all wet signal, delay time 0, turn tweeze (drive) all the way up.

for a slow gear, use Auto-Volume echo, no repeats, all wet signal, delay time 0..you can use exp pedal to sweep the speed (tweak)

a very versatile and intuitive pedal, and worth it for the looping alone- I always use the 'start in half speed' trick, so I can get 28 secs of looping. I use it in non-true bypass mode (so delays trail off), and had it from the first year of production and never had a problem over 1000s of gigs.

What do you folks suggest for an expression pedal to go with it? Go with the Boss EV-5? Something else?

P.S. Very cool ideas, Mincer. Do you still have the video posted someplace?

Re: Snagged up a Line 6 DL4

I use an Ernie Ball Vol Pedal Jr, the 25k version (you have to use something with 10-25k, in that range). I just plug a mono cable into the pedal's 'out'. The Line6 pedal is plastic and really expensive for how cheaply made it is.

I think the videos are linked in the Tips and Clips section, as well as on my website (below)...thanks for asking!
