So cal - san dimas conversion (of sorts)

On my Charvel Pro Mod I wasnt happy with the dark sound of the stock dimarzios.. They were ok for chord chunking, but didnt really inspire alot of different stuff. Plus being an 80s head and the guitar being an "80s icon" I figured JB/Jazz set would do the trick. I also wanted to change the look alittle, but not go 80s overboard.

Im EXTREMELY thrilled with the tones! I was late for a Dr appt today cuz I couldnt stop playing. cleans are jangly and crisp, leads sing..

The look was cool to me at first, but the more I look at it, it reminds me too much of a strat. (The black guard/black pups looked more ominous)
Sorry for the poor cell photos, but here is the eye candy.

That is one hot guitar. Personally, I love the white pu's, black pickguard. Reminds me of some of the earlier Ibanez gems, not strat-like at all. Would look amazing on stage! Adding to the great look is the white body/black hardware.

Re: So cal - san dimas conversion (of sorts)

thank you! I was hoping to add some contrast to the full blacked out center.. I had a Kramer focus 6000 that was black and I had white pups in it and looked cool. I love this guitar! and loving the new pups!

Re: So cal - san dimas conversion (of sorts)

The white pups were a great choice! Sorry the DiMarzios didn't work out. Selling em?

Re: So cal - san dimas conversion (of sorts)

Makes me want to go out and buy a used GOOD Chavel neck for my Chavel DX275

Re: So cal - san dimas conversion (of sorts)

Oh man I'm liking it A LOT!!!

Great choice the white pus on the black guard, great contrast.
The pickups match the body while the guard the hardware :)

Still, I'm feeling that sth needs to be done with those knobs but can't quite put my finger on it...

Re: So cal - san dimas conversion (of sorts)

Now this is full of win ! Yum, I rarely see guitars looking good with white pickups. You shot me in the eye :D. I like this a lot !

Re: So cal - san dimas conversion (of sorts)

Is that a hughes and kettner solid state? I've got (borrowed) an edition blonde ss. What do you think of it?

Re: So cal - san dimas conversion (of sorts)

dude that is the same as my so cal except i have a black JB/59 set i got from aryton because i hated the TZ and wanted both neck and bridge to be duncans so he sold me his set from a san dimas and i couldnt be happier,
charvel should ditch the idea of loading the so cal with DIMs

Yes, its an Edition blue 30. Its pretty cool for alil solid state..Gain is pretty nice and it pretty versatile. Its my most used amp and is dying.. I mostly have phones plugged into the top of it so thats why it most used.. esp now being in an apt.

Manos,
Maybe a white speed knob?? I have a couple of purple knobs laying around.. : )

Edhunter, yeah, I preferred the san dimas due to the pickups. Some people prefer the dimarzios tho..

Metal maniac,
LOL at what you said!

Thanks for the kind words all! I LOVE this guitar. It sustains pretty well too. Im putting a big block in it just to see and it may become my go to..

Re: So cal - san dimas conversion (of sorts)

Yep, thats cool :D

Had chance to try it through the Splawn yet?

Re: So cal - san dimas conversion (of sorts)

Guess that I'm in the minority of people who like the Dimarzios, (did wire everything up with coil splits which gives some brighter/clearer options). Your guitar looks cool man! I think those Charvels are fantastic players.

That could do it, I like dome knobs the best but I can't imagine those in white :9:

Good thing is knobs are easy enough to swap and cheap enough to experiment if you thing sth MIGHT work to give an idea that has a basis a try. :)
