So cal - san dimas conversion (of sorts)

Re: So cal - san dimas conversion (of sorts)

I went out to get the same as you have, but was planning to install a Super Distortion and PAF 36thAnn. and have a guitar like Adrian Smith played in the 80's. The white SO-Cal wasn't available any more so I went and tried out the San Dimas at my local store and was blown away.
Definitely a great guitar. I've got the black San Dimas with the JB/'59 and these pups aren't going anywhere!

Yep, thats cool :D

Had chance to try it through the Splawn yet?

no! CANT wait to!! So far, Ive only been able to run thru my HK practice amp.. my good amps are in storage.. But rest assured one day next week, the apartment manager will be getting complaints!!! I feel the need for some serious volume therapy!

Can't beat it mate, get it done! :D :friday:

That's badass. I'd leave the white pickups but put on white Strat knobs, not speed knobs. Speed knobs look cheesy on a Strat, IMO.

thanks! And I agree ( about the speed knob), was sorta being sarcastic. I do have a white strat knob I can try.. Might be an idea.. Just dont want it to look too stratty. I like the ease of the knurled knob, so may not change unless it looks real cool.. haha

Throwing an update out there. Im gonna try a white strat knob, but they are in storage, so Ill update photos when I get to try that.
However, I did put in a brass big block today and holy crap this thing sounds huge! I was really impressed with how it felt solid and the sustain for a floyd axe out of the case, but this makes it even more solid sounding and sustains even better..

Do your wallet and your tone a favor and order from a dude named Keith on ebay. Seller name Hoockey. http://myworld.ebay.com/hoockey/
prices are great and he is great to deal with.

gorgeous! perfect!

Really nice, Bloodrose. If not for the Floyd, I'd rock the hell out of that thing.

Re: So cal - san dimas conversion (of sorts)

See what I mean?

First time I put a big block on my Swing I returned home and for the life of me couldn't figure out how the amp's EQ had gotten so screwed up :9:

Then, of course I had that "Ah ha!" moment :D

Glad to see you're digging your SoCal Bro!!!

Re: So cal - san dimas conversion (of sorts)

I'm torn on the DiMarzios in my SoCal. For one, they really nail the old Iron Maiden stuff when Murray was using his Strat with the DiMzos (NOTB, Piece, Powerslave), but then that's the only thing I can use the guitar for because it doesn't sound like anything else

And good luck finding a knob to fit those CTS pot shafts. I've got a ton of knobs (LP, Strat, etc - mostly imports, yes) but the only thing that fit those shafts were the Knobs O' Doom they come with.

The white pickups really rock in that guitar . . .

thanks! I like the look and the sound better.. I changed to a white knob too. pref the function of the stocker, but like the look of the white one.

Re: So cal - san dimas conversion (of sorts)

Out of all the new Charvels, I liked that model the most, but was disappointed that they'd put Dimarzios in that particular one, when the rest come with Duncans.

Send them a pic of yours, and they'll probably update that model next year with your version!

Re: So cal - san dimas conversion (of sorts)

I must be the only guy that likes the stock volume knob on the new Charvels.

Re: So cal - san dimas conversion (of sorts)

I love it for its usefulness. those knurls are great. I just wanted the visuals to be alil more striking..

Thanks for that compliment! Yeah, I didnt want the dimarzios, but whatcha gonna do??

Re: So cal - san dimas conversion (of sorts)

I agree. Charvel needs to at least make the SoCal model optional to have a JB/Jazz or JB/'59 setup.

That's a great looking guitar. It looks very Jake E. Lee-ish.
