So carvin's now making multiple fret radii available, I have a choice on my rebuild

In order to appeal to more customers, Carvin is making different fret radii a custom option on their necks which I think is a good idea. I had a CT that I sent back for a rebuild that came to me with a 14" radius. 12" is now standard on them, and since I sent it in at the same time they were doing the changeover I have a choice. Should I keep the flatter 14" or go with a 12" on my CT3M? I've found that 12 and 14 are my favorite, any rounder or flatter aren't comfortable for me.

What will this guitar be used for? It sounds to me like you'll have the Warmoth strat for shred/lead type work, the Nighthhawk, and this. If it was going to be for more rock-based styles, I'd go with 14". Anything like blues, country, jazz, etc, I'd go for 12".

I pretty much use all my guitars for all of the above, just for different flavors. I'm sure you guys are getting sick of my polls too. I mean you can really play anything on any radius, it's a matter of preference. I think I like 12" the best, but both 12 and 14" radii guitars have always been the most comfortable for me. Either way I need to call tomorrow to find out exactly what I'm getting, my original order or the new neck radius. Apparently any built after may 10th will feature the new radius. They just recieved mine so I doubt they started building a new one yet.

I mean you can really play anything on any radius, it's a matter of preference. I think I like 12" the best, but both 12 and 14" radii guitars have always been the most comfortable for me.

You can play anything on any radius, I just feel that chording is easier on a lower radius, while leadwork and complex riffing are much easier on a flatter board.

It's a pain to try and shred on a 7.25" Fender, to say the least.

Yeah I agree with that for sure. I try to find a good compromise between the two. But then again if holdsworth can do all those crazy chord voicings on a 20" radius...

I just noticed that the ibanez satriani model is a 9.5" radius. And he shreds better than most anyone.

Very true. My next guitar will have a 10" radius on it, and I expect it to play like buttah. I currently have guitars with 9.5" and 14" radii.

In this situation I'd probably go with the 12".

Okay I called Carvin, they just recieved the guitar and hadn't started the new one yet and the rebuild will come with a 12" radius. I think I'll like that better since it'll be closer to a PRS/Gibson feel for this guitar.
