RATS!!! Played a Fender '57 Twin again at the store, cranked it up. Still loved it, but it has lost its magic. Clean didn't sound as clear as I remembered, overdrive wasn't smooth enough for a rock lead tone that I really desired. Didn't have that EL84 bite either. I was always a fan of super british amps to start with, Vox, Orange, Hiwatt etc. I kinda put them aside when after I played a lot of Fenders, this was like a year ago when I wanted a Fender Bassman RI.
There will always be a place for Tweed in my heart, but now I am leaning towards a different amp. Much different, more back to the british stuff. Conisdering a few different ones, not sure which one I like best, all of them at lower wattage than the Tweed Twin. I never played any of them which isn't too good. Might just buy blind cuz there are no stores around me that sell them. I can always return it for a refund if I don't like it. Not too worried about the buying procedure yet. Ill probably get a chance to play them first anyway. Theres gotta be some down at NYC... 48th street or something.
First one is the Top Hat Supreme Sixteen (head w/ 1x12 cab).

Next one is the Bad Cat Cub II

Another is the 65Amps London (head w/ 2x12 cab or 2x12 combo)

And finally, the Dr. Z Route 66 (blonde pictured head w/ matching cab)

I'm looking for a more unique tone with these amps. Not exactly Marshall, not exactly Vox with much American influcence mixed in. I really like the Route 66 the best, highest wattage for gigs, very round smooth thick tone w/ KT66s, simple (low amount of knobs) and has the most American tone out of them all. Heard a lot of sound clips, sounds perfect. My guitar tech, the drummer's dad, a very very close friend, recomended Dr. Z. They're probably better quality than the Fender Tweed Twin as far as Im concerned. I'd probably get the Route 66 with the 1x12 matching cab and put a Fane AXA.12 in there to enhance the low end and add some agression to the amp. Not exactly sure which amp though.
Any feedback? Thanks.
