So explain the difference that magnets make?

What are the various levels of tone that one can expect with all the different kinds of magents? (i.e. alnico 2, 3, 4, 5 and 8, etc).

Also, are all magnets interchangable? I'm debating on buying a 3, 4, 5 and 8 for my Custom Custom to hear the difference.

Big difference!

Weaker magnets like II and III have a softer feel to them. V, VIII, and ceramics (stronger mags) have a stiffer, more punchy feel.

The differences between each magnet go further than that...But it might take awhile to separate them all out.

That is a MAGNIFICENT idea. i would expect great things from the Custom 4 if I were you.

The magnets are interchangeable (all 2.5" x 0.5" x 0.125") and we're all a bunch of swapheads in here. Do it. The magnets aren't very expensive and you'll learn a lot. Just make sure you mark each mag with a Sharpie because they all look alike.
