So I Didn't Get The Hardtail, BUT......

...I did get this. Went to guitar center to pick up some picks and some more strings and just to generally waste an hour or so. They were blowing out the blond and teal Highway 1's for an incredible price. I just couldn't pass it up. I wasn't looking for a strat, but at the blowout price I couldn't resist. It has a few bumps on the sides where careless shoppers would bang it into others hanging in the wall, but nothing thru the finish.

Man!!! That's mucho cool!! Mind lettin on how much it was? The highway 1's are really solid guitars, and thats always been my problem with strat's, finding one thats solid. Enjoy!

Re: So I Didn't Get The Hardtail, BUT......

Very Cool! Congrats. I'd rather have a nice Strat or Tele than just about any other guitar anyway. Lew

Re: So I Didn't Get The Hardtail, BUT......

Anyone looking for a good deal on a Strat should head down to their local GC to see if they are blowing these out. $359 is what I paid for it, no gig bag but who cares....I'll buy a hard case later on the bay.

My local GC was only marking down the Blond and Teal. There was one Blond w/rosewood left and about 5 Teal's. I think one Teal was rosewood, the others were maple. It's a great guitar for the money. From looking at the Fender web page the only differences are finish, tuners, hand rolled fingerboard edges and pickups. Honestly, I don't notice a huge difference in the fingerboard edges between this one and the USA Standard I sold to Darrin. Pups will be changed eventually regardless of what Fender puts in them anyhow, and I usually upgrade to locking tuners also. So what's left....the finish? Seems to me the thin laquer will give the tone of an old, worn in Strat. What's to lose....it's not shiney?

If anyone is interested and your local GC is not having this sale, if you wanted to paypal or express me $$, I'd be happy to head down to GC and pick one up and ship it to you.

Blonde strats are beautful though, very good buy, the guitar looks awesome :headbang:

Re: So I Didn't Get The Hardtail, BUT......

If you had another Dean, you'd just be confused about which one to pick up when you want to play. Now, you can spend time diggin into the better strat tones.
Pickguard? I'd go Fender C.S. mint green on that one.

Re: So I Didn't Get The Hardtail, BUT......

$359 you got to be :joke: for that sort of money it's worth it just to do any project work etc and bash the thing around. You guys are so lucky in being able to get these bargains - in the UK we would have to pay in the region of $650 -$700. Jeff I might even take you up on that offer??

NEW STUFF ROCKS!!!!!!!!!! :headbang: :fing2:

Re: So I Didn't Get The Hardtail, BUT......

Welcome to the highway 1 club!!!

I have one and love it. You can even stick with the stock pickups for a vintage sound! (after i popped the ants in, i thought that the improvement was substantial but not enormous) the stock pickups are still very glassy and vintagey sounding. U might want to shield it though, because there is no humcancelling.

When the paint starts coming off don't freak!!

On my upper horn, i already have a whole line 0.5 cm by 5 cm missing to the bare wood. My buddy was playing mine with a metallica shirt on. The paint off the metallica shirt got off the shirt and went into the paint on the highway1 BELIEVE IT OR NOT. I tried scrubbing it off with my finger nail in a day, and the whole paint came off to the bare wood. It's been coming off a tad at a time now and then....
