They've been installed in my guitar for a couple of days now. I haven't got down to real band practice yet, but I've been trying them out on my amp anyway.
In short, they're great. I'm very satisfied, and I really appreciate the help you guys gave to me in my time of need.
The SH-1 in the bridge is open and balanced. It sustains beautifully and has more of a SC vibe compared to my other buckers in my other guitars. It has solid, deep lows with nice thump and highs with clarity and bite. Overall it's warm, clear, powerful and thick all in the same package. Just what the doctor ordered.
The SH-2 sounds, as others have said before, very "tubular". Deep and balanced sounding pickup, that really doesn't get muddy. Very nice combination with the '59, they sound quite good together. I wouldn't have wanted a more bassy neck pickup. The mids and highs are nice, and it really sounds just like a neck pickup should.
What really gives this guitar with these pickups an edge over my other guitars is the really nice dynamics of these pickups. They react wonderfully to pick attack and the volume knob. I find that I can take the extra bite off by keeping my vol lower than full, and then raise it when need be. Both of the pickups seem to like it the same way, very nice. I also find that I can get about all the distortion that I need just by varying my picking strength. I can pick softly and leave it clean on the verge of breakup, and then hit the strings hard for some gain. Something very important to me, and this combo really delivers what I want.
I'll try and get some sound clips from our next rehearsal. I'll see if I'll snatch a family pic too, as I got a new amp as well.
Thanks again for your advice earlier on, and a big bow to SD for making these very nice pickups. You rock!
