I agree that the "advantage" is that there is more good "middle of the road" equipment. By crap I mean the guitars that are sold by the boatload off ebay to people that just want an electric guitar "like *insert Hero*´s" without wanting to invest money nor research. Mostly those 50$ acoustics and 60$ electrics![]()

Go to Home Depot or Lowes. Buy 24’ of standard grade 2x2 pine, glue (8) 36” long pieces together and voila… Ibanez body blank.What’s sad is that this story isn’t that far from the truth for the bottom of the barrel Ibanez RGs from the late 90s. Biggest difference is they used a knot-free agathis.
