Powdered Toast Man

I have a Traynor YBA200 from back when I played bass in a band. These days my band's bassist uses it for rehearsals at my place. Today when he turned it on and flipped the standby switch there was a loud "pop" sound and very little volume. We noticed a funny smell and that's when we saw that the power tubes were lit up like a Christmas tree! We unplugged it and it was really hot to the touch even though it had only been on for a few minutes.
Anyway we didnt have another bass amp around so I ended up grabbing my 5E3 (Fender 57 tweed deluxe clone). I unplugged the speaker and used the 4ohm tap to plug in my bass cabinet to the amp head. The bass cab is 400 watts and has two 10's and one 15 speaker in it. Holy crap, does that rig ever sound amazing! The 5E3 is something like 12 watts but it's LOUD through this cab and the bass sounds warm and full - absolutely massive!
So there you go guitarists! If you want to own a bass you don't need a second rig. Just grab a bass cab and plug it into your guitar amp head.
As for my Traynor, it has a date with my amp tech this week.
