So SD sent me someone else's Custom Shop Pickups...

I joined the forum just so I could make this post. Not sure if this is even the right sub-forum, but here goes.

So right around Thanksgiving I emailed customer support trying to get some new replacement screws for a pickup and Keith emailed me back and said if I was in the US they'd just send me some. Awesome! I sent him my address and I've still not received them. No biggie. Well here's where it gets weird.

About two weeks before Christmas I get a package from the Seymour Duncan Custom Shop. I opened them up and it was a brand new shiny gold set of Pearly Gates. I said to myself WTF? The invoice had my name and address, but it clearly stated they were built for somebody else.

I immediately called customer service, and it took me about 4 calls and about an hour of wait time to finally reach somebody. I had to 0 out to the receptionist and have her track somebody down. I'm guessing it's a small operation, but that was strange in and of itself. So I finally got a hold of somebody and explained to him what was going on. He confirmed the pickups did belong to the guy whose name is on the invoice and neither of us could figure out how my name got attached to the order. I told him I had requested some screws recently and that was it. He thanked me for my standup-ness and said he'd email me a shipping label for the pickups and get my screws and a few free t-shirts in the mail to me. I hung up with a warm wave of good karma washing over me.

Fast forward to the next day and I still hadn't received the shipping label, so I tried to call again and I kept getting Keith's voicemail. I did that for a day or two and finally left a voicemail for him with a short description of the issue and my contact info and expected a call back. That was the week before Christmas. I was out all last week on vacation and never received a call. Tried to call again today and the customer service option went straight to his voicemail again.

This is beyond frustrating and such a strange situation. Some poor guy is waiting for his $300 custom shop pickups and there just sitting here in my office. I have no idea what to do with them. I have even tried to message random guys with the same name on Facebook to see if they have ordered them. It was a pretty common name so I picked the ones that had guitars in their profile pictures or looked like musicians. Needless to say I never got a response from anyone.

I realize it's the holidays and everybody is out, but at this point I don't know what to do. Should I just ship them back to Seymour Duncan on my dime in the hopes they get to the right guy? I'm not confident that would happen based on my recent experiences.

Sorry for the novel!

Welcome to the forum.

In your position, I would wait a little longer to be contacted by SD Pickups. (Things do tend to shutdown at this time of year.)

Re: So SD sent me someone else's Custom Shop Pickups...

Nice to see there are still honest guys in the world! I would just wait until the xmas/new year rush dies down a bit.

Re: So SD sent me someone else's Custom Shop Pickups...

Yeah, the end-of-year happenings do tend to gum up the works, so just hang tight and I'm sure it'll all be straightened out in another week or so, once all the hubbub dies down.

I feel for the guy who didn't get his Customs on Christmas, though. Probably ordered as a gift (by the Missus or for his kid) and now everyone's bummin'. :(

But, these things happen.

Kudos to you for the honesty, though. If I had a set of screws, I'd send them to you myself.

Thanks for the responses! Just wanted more sets of eyes on the situation to make sure I shouldn't be doing more. Hopefully everything settles down after this week. I do feel sorry for the guy, I know I'd be freaking out a little bit.

JabooWookie you're a stand-up guy. Good on you and sorry for the hassles you are experiencing.

Re: So SD sent me someone else's Custom Shop Pickups...

Hey buddy, weird! I will get in touch with Keith now and we will get you straightened out with your shipping label and get you the screws you were promised. This is the one time of year where the factory is almost in total shutdown, hence the delay. Standby for an email from Mr. Merrow.

Re: So SD sent me someone else's Custom Shop Pickups...

That is weird. But unfortunately, I've had similar experiences dealing with S.D. directly. I have been trying to get some old Duncan pickups rewound since early October. Last I heard from the guy, he was gonna set me up with an RMA and sales order, then I heard nothing. I inquired to find out how to pay, and got no response. I sent two more e-mails asking to move forward on the order, trying to figure out what was going on. Nothing. I haven't heard peep from the guy in two and a half months. Jeez. How hard is it to just TAKE MY MONEY? I've pretty much decided that I'm just gonna send them in along with a check and a printout of the e-mail chain. I am kind of afraid of them losing my pickups, though, given what has happened so far.

Re: So SD sent me someone else's Custom Shop Pickups...

Keith just emailed me and the process is underway. The phone system is jacked up so he hasn't been getting voicemails. I wish I would've posted on here sooner! Thanks for all of the help.

Re: So SD sent me someone else's Custom Shop Pickups...

I like your style, it restores my faith in human nature. Happy new year to you and I'm sure S.D will look after you for your honesty.

Re: So SD sent me someone else's Custom Shop Pickups...

That's very honest of you, especially going the extra mile to search the names on Facebook and ask. Keep it up and have a happy New Year!

Re: So SD sent me someone else's Custom Shop Pickups...

You're a good man and don't let anyone tell you different!

Re: So SD sent me someone else's Custom Shop Pickups...

It's a Festivus miracle!

In all seriousness Duncan is one of the best companies I have ever had the pleasure to deal with. I have placed all my custom shop orders in the past through a retailer with them but they always came through. Another company that always had my back when I had issues is Gallien-Krueger. I miss the kind of top notch customer service you can receive in the US sometimes as most companies where I am now do not understand the happy customer equals return customer concept.

Good thing honest people are still out there too though because even great companies are run by humans. We all make mistakes from time to time.

I wish Bogner would screw up and send me a new Helios head and cab by mistake. :18:
