So tell me about the pearly gates bridge used in the neck slot...

I used to have a Lindy Fralin 8.5k paf that I used in the neck position of a guitar and it sounded great there. It was somewhat darker sounding than a 7.5k, but in a good way. Excellent lead guitar tones. Smooth sustain for days. But isn't 8.5k is considered to be a bridge pickup, right???
I am thinking that the pearly gates bridge might be a good neck pickup as well since it has a similar resistance.
Any thoughts on this?

Actually, you just described the way the PGb sounds in the neck of my Carvin. Another thing, it has great harmonics. Not just great harmonics for a neck pickup, but great harmonics overall.

for those of you looking to fatten up the neck slot on a 24 fret guitar, this is your pickup, gentlemen. :burnout:

i bet it would sound pretty cool. kinda dark and smooth with a killer lead tone.

benjy, how is the bottom first couple frets on the low strings?

They're chunky, great lows without being muddy. It's actually kind of surprising; it has such a smooth, thick lead tone, but you can still play full chords with OD and get great clarity.

Dr Barlo uses a PGb in the neck of one of his guitars with a pretty hot PG+ in the bridge...he loves it. I have thought about trying it as well, Im just out of guitars at this point! :smack:

8.5k is definitely leaning toward the bridge side, but it can still work in the neck. It would definitely be too muddy for my tastes since I like to play the neck pickup squeaky clean 99% of the time, but if you're using it only or primarily for overdrive leads, it should be just fine.
