So yeah, I'm late to the party... and I realize that this is absolutely the oldest news in the book.

But man... the Jazz and JB make a freakin' GREAT set of pickups. No wonder they're packaged together as the Hot Rodded Set, and that they're always reccomended with each other.

Just installed these into my Warmoth Superstrat. Sounds incredible. It's funny, because the Warmoth is a relatively bright guitar, and the JB sounds anything but thin. Sounds full, warm, singing, biting, aggressive. Awesome for leads. The Jazz sounds warm but cutting and great articulation.

Both of them sound on the modern side... which is probably why they match up so well. But both had that Alnico 5 flavor going on as well.

Great, great set of pickups.

Feel free to post "I TOLD YOU SO" or "WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN NICK?!?!?!" as much as you'd like.

:p

Am I the only one who doesn't really dig the sound of the jb?

Lots of people don't like the JB. Luckily there are dozens and dozens of other choices. I think it's a great pickup though. I will have one in a guitar again one of these days.\

There's also a lot of people that don't care for the Jazz. Same deal. I use one and I like it a lot.

No, there are many of us. But, the JB does sound good in some guitars, according to a number of posts. It's tone is very dependent on the wood it's in, & your tastes and style of music. I've tried several JB's in several different guitars, and didn't like it in anything. Some guys soften the 'ice pick' spike with a warmer magnet.

There was a recent post about JazzN's, with most players feeling they were a little weak & bland, with the '59N usually being preferred.

For me, for an all-around pair with a high output bridge, the C5 or C8/'59B is better.

For me, the jury is still out on the JB. I guess I'm just used to moderate output pups, and have my rig set up to accomodate those. I just got one of the new USA Production model Charvels, and the JB and '59 sound good together, but this guitar is a different beast from a tone standpoint.

I have an original San Dimas Charvel from the 80s. The new one plays just as good, but the tone is totally different with the JB. It's probly more my setup than the pup. I like the tone, but I'm going to have to tame my setup a little, because I know it can be better. It's a hot pup, no doubt.

I didn't really care for my JB when I first got it. It was very shrill to my ears. I later changed to heavier strings and from steel to nickel and the difference was amazing. I don't know if it was the nickel, the heavier string guages or a combination of the two but the end result really works.

I really need to check out the jazz at some point but I will need to get another guitar...I'm really happy with the sets I have in all 3 of my current guitars.

Yeah, I mean, I'm a die-hard 59N user. Though and through. For any of my main guitars, that's what I go with.

But for the superstrat, for more of a modern flavor, the JazzN works great. I agree, it has less "vibe" and personality than the 59, but it cuts awesome and still sounds great.

As far as bridge pickups, I still prefer vintage-PAF based pickups. 59, etc. But for something fun in this guitar, when I want to pretend to shred, the JB sounds awesome.

Perhaps the most height-sensitive pickup I've ever come across, too.

OK...the jury ain't out on the JB, anymore. I did some very minor adjustments and this is like a different guitar. Now I get it. It's a keeper.

I highly recommend these USA Production Charvels. If anyone puts a better neck on a guitar, I'm not aware of it. I'm not much of a Floyd Rose guy, but I'll have some fun with it. The JB and '59 with this alder body and maple neck are rockin'. The Marshall doesn't hurt, either. :naughty:

I have one guitar with the '59N and the JB--a G&L ASAT Deluxe. It has 250K pots, and the JB sounds really good in that guitar. The '59/JB is another very usable combo.

i think the JB is alright, it's a little "generic" to me, the the cleans could be better and the distortion i get from it sounds like alot of the stuff on the radio, bland. although with a2 in there it's much nicer, more complex and really fat. great for old school rock stuff(journey, possibly VH, etc...)

I agree with you Ska... I am tempted to use the word "generic", but I'm probably tempted to use it because SO many people use this tone, ya know?
