So...

When do you guys think Seymour is going to release a pickup to compete with the new EMG x series? lol

I mean the blackout is a good pickup, don't get me wrong, but it has a kinda muddy sound to my ears compared to the emg 81x/60x combo I play.(the first batch from NAMM) I like the tightness overall of the emg x series pickups too. now I think if seymour did what seymour does best, and thats make kick ass pickups, and made the blackouts to have a tighter bass, and therefore less muddy to my ears. and improved on the dynamics and headroom even more than the og blackout. It would be the perfect pickup for me.

I apologize if this thread gets any panties up in a wad.

Re: So...

Well, the Blackouts were designed to give the "classic" EMGs a thorough beating.

As that was very successful, EMG was forced to do something they hadn´t done much of in a long time, R&D (Though something tells me teh X-series has been finished for a while and tehy were just waiting for a worthy competitor before tossing the card on teh table). Either way, the result was the "improved" EMG-x Series, which IMO still doesn´t sound as good as the Blackouts but definitely better than their original designs.

I´m fairly certain SD will counter this in due time. Right now the Blackouts are tearing market share away from EMG, but you have to remember EMG´s strong suit are actives, and they are still market leader in that niche for a reason. Contrastingly SD does mostly passives, and commands the market for the most part on that vein, but as a result the active market isn´t the most important one for SD at this time I´d think.

And considering the massive charge they´ve had going on, giving EMG a few months to breathe and toss out a few new ideas probably isn´t a bad idea at all. Why charge blindly into the battle when you can find out what the "enemy" has up his sleeve first ;)

Also, the X-series hasn´t garnered huge support yet, either... When people start tearing their BOs out for EMG-x PUs, then SD will almost certainly react ;)

Re: So...

Almost exactly what I was thinking was going to happen is that in a bout 3-6 months Duncan is gonna release something that'll blow those out of the water and leave EMG really nothing much left to improve on. lol I just prefer the overall tightness to that of the Blackout. the voicing and everything else aside from the loose bass in the blackout its pretty much my favorite active pickup. I just can't wait to see what duncan has in store for us in the future. :D I also must say I wanna see an alnico 8 mag in an active.

Re: So...

A little off-topic, but I'd love to see a brighter, clearer, more articulate Blackout neck pickup; ie, if the BO bridge is an 85, I'd like to see a BO neck that is an 81.

Re: So...

I also thought EMG had to do the X-series because of DiMarzio's D Activator pickups (which I use). After all, Ibanez commisioned DiMarzio with the task of 'fixing' the active pickup problem(s) with a pickup design for some of their guitars. If you notice, a lot of new Ibby's have DiMarzio D Activator's in them, both the original versions and now their own X-series pickups.

AFAIK:

BO bridge was based off the 81
BO neck was based off the 85

I got a BO neck in the bridge of My LP, I dig it.

Re: So...

That's the feeling I get, too. I just wish it was the other way around, or 81-81. I really should try swapping them around, I guess *scratches chin*

I even used to swap my emgs around to have the 81 @ neck and the 85 at the bridge... everyone told me i was nuts until they tried it themselves :laugh2:

if you want an 81/81 set, just buy 2 Blackout Bridges ;)
