Software that will record over backing track

Now, I can't load a backing track in Ableton Live. That program came with my toneport, but it's only a demo version, so I can't use all the features. I then tried downloading that audiacity program, and I can't find out if it's possible to load a backing track in that program and then record a guitar track over it.. I then tried Kristal, and it loads the backingtrack nicely, but if I try to record a seperate guitar track, I hear nothing but noise.. So people, recommend some programs that can do this.

***HAS TO BE FREE AND DOWNLOADABLE

What format is the backing track in?

Re: Software that will record over backing track

It's originally in mp3 format, but I also have it in .wav

Re: Software that will record over backing track

I use Sonar 4 to record. You can import the .wav file into a track, and do whatever you want with the others. The only problem might be when you change tempo, since the .wav file will likely be a fixed tempo. If that's not an issue with you, then you'll be all set. Sonar's super easy to use.

Re: Software that will record over backing track

The tempo won't be a problem. Is "Sonar 4" free and downloadable somewhere?

Now that I don't know. You'd have to see what's out there. I believe Cakewalk is the manufacturer. They may have a demo or trial version available. I got my copy from a guy who got it from a guy...

Re: Software that will record over backing track

My bad, I forgot to write that it has to be free and downloadable :duh:

Re: Software that will record over backing track

i used ableton live lite (with toneport) to do it .... here's how i did it ... set the input source as the soundcard .. play the mp3 back in whatever mp3 player you use and record it in real time into ableton ... it isnt an 'import', it is a recording of the track

good luck

Re: Software that will record over backing track

you can open the backing track in audacity, and then just press "record". make sure you have your options set that it will play your previous tracks when you record, though.

Re: Software that will record over backing track

Thanks for the help guys, I'll try it out.

Re: Software that will record over backing track

In audacity, how do I get it to play the backing track WHILE I'm recording?

Re: Software that will record over backing track

I can't import tracks with the demo version.

Re: Software that will record over backing track

I found out how to do it with audacity. Thanks for all your help guys.

Re: Software that will record over backing track

Anyone know how to import a backing track into Cubase or GarageBand for recording solos 'n' such?
