Soldano Hot Rod 25 Demo + Diezel D-Moll Demo + Morris Grinder Demo (Past-Due NAD's)

Well I went all out in my quest for tone and bought 4 amazing amps. One of them, a Friedman Smallbox, hasn't got here yet so I can't tell you much about it yet. I explained about the rest below with pics and audio.

If anyone is interested in hearing a couple of demos of the Soldano Hot Rod 25, then check out the David Allen P51 thread I posted in the Pickup Lounge. They're not professional recordings, only raw, improvised solos/melodies over backing tracks. In any case I think it sounds pretty good for home recording too.

I also got two other amazing amps. The first one below is a Diezel D-Moll. There is a little audio demo for each of the amps under the pics. By the way, I used Duncan YJM Fury pickups and an Eminence Man-O-War speaker for the Morris Grinder demo. The Man-O-War isn't the ideal speaker for this amp so it came out pretty thick. The amp is utterly amazing.

Both sound great but the diezel is like wow

Re: Soldano Hot Rod 25 Demo + Diezel D-Moll Demo + Morris Grinder Demo (Past-Due NAD'

Yeah that amp is really easy to record with. The Soldano is tricky. When I recorded that, I used a Vintage 30, but Mike Soldano said it's not really a good choice for that amp. It is very spiky and bright with V30s, Greenbacks, and of course the Classic Lead.I'm going to order an Eminence Legend which is what Soldano uses stock. I used to have one and it was a great speaker. The Man-O-War I used for the Morris sounds better with the Soldano. I'm going to work on those because those amps sound every bit as good as the Diezel but I haven't been able to do them justice. Then again, the Diezel is much gainer so maybe saturating them with some more gain will bring out that vocal, singing sustain the D-Moll has for soloing.

Just when I think my amp GAS is cured... I find out there's a Soldano Hot Rod 25.

Listen to the Morris demo again. The MP3 got corrupted somehow when I uploaded it to Soundclick so the panning was all screwed up and stuff. I fixed it. I also uploaded a quick bluesy demo of the D-Moll.

I really want to hear your review on the Friedman.

Hey man I've been waiting 95 days (and still counting...) to do a review on the Smallbox. The truth is that I already plan to sell it immediately. I might not even open the box. That money is going the way of a custom Soldano.

Oh Man.....Mike should have built that HR25 Ten Years Ago.!
Oh well.....all good things come to those who wait...or so the story goes. :)

before you had your signal chain up, now I can't see it - with the line 6 flanger and all that.

point of this comment is, I'm contemplating doing some solos on a piece and having effects on it right off the bat - reverb, delay, everything I need to cop the feel. I seem to play the whole thing better and get into the vibe more. seems like you copped some good solos having all the effects going on during recording, as opposed to adding a bunch of digital stuff later.

Ten years ago the SLO wasn't $4200 so maybe it wasn't necessary at the time. Oh man, the Hot Rod 25 IS a 25w SLO. I owned a 2008 SLO so I know the SLO very well, and I can tell you that the HR25 is the SLO. If you've played the Hot Rod 50 or 100 AND and SLO, then you know there huge similarities but also differences. To me, the HR25 leans toward the SLO more than the Hot Rod 50/100. It needs a bit of volume to get THE tone though. Even though it's 25w, it's pretty loud and doesn't necessarily give up the goods until it's beyond bedroom volume. I think my demo kind of does a good job of showing it at low volume. It's designed with a dual 5881 power section operating at low plate voltages. My Diezel D-Moll is 100 KILLER watts and I think it gets better low volume tone than the HR25. However, if you can get the volume up just past conversation level, it really blossoms into SLO territory without leaving dead rodents and small critters dead on your doorstep. Man the SLO is 100 watts of Marshall wattage. Unlike the Decatone which is pretty tame for a 100w amp. It's great that they make the HR25 because you can capture all of that.

I didn't post my signal chain in this thread because I didn't use any effects. I added a touch of reverb in Sonar before converting the tracks to MP3. I got rid of my Line6 too. Now I use a Diamond Memory Lane Jr. and a custom VFE chorus. However, I haven't had much luck recording with effects so that's something I'm working on. Wait, I might have used the Memory Jr. for the Soldano demo, but I can't remember. In any case, they all love analog and digital effects so far. The D-Moll being the most FX friendly amp I have ever owned.

What are you going to have modded or customized?

Re: Soldano Hot Rod 25 Demo + Diezel D-Moll Demo + Morris Grinder Demo (Past-Due NAD'

Nothing dude. It's standard production. They just haven't made them yet. I'm freaking frustrated as hell and sick and tired of waiting. I lost all taste for Friedman as a result. I don't care how great their amps are because if I can't get a stinking simple order in a reasonable amount of time then I'd rather buy something else. If sales are this way, I don't expect anything better for support. If they can't get them to customers in a reasonable amount of time then I doubt they can support them either.

Sorry dudes. I don't want to badmouth anyone but there's a point where the frustration builds up. Trust me, if I weren't stuck with the order, I would have bought something else 2 months ago. Week after week and they don't bother even giving us a straight answer.

I think the question was what custom options are you getting on the Soldano.

Thanks Captain Obvious. I trying to be slick and avoid that question since I didn't want to disclose the customizations I plan to get.

Is that the factory tolex? It looks like an aftermarket cab though. If it is stock then that's pretty cool.

Well you could have just said that instead of insulting me.
