some changes to my squier

Hello everybody, I'm Olivier (from Belgium) and I have just bought the Seymour Duncan TB-4 (JB). I want to put this in my squier strat, s-s-s (YN4....) in de bridge position. But that's not the only thing I want to do. This is what i want to do:

- the TB-4 in the bridge
- 2 volume pots (1 voor the TB-4, ??? 500k or 250 k ??? and one for the other ones, 250k) and 1 master tone
- If the middle pick up is RWRP I want zo put it together with the neck pick up in de neck and the old bridge pick up has to move to the middle, now it looks like i have H-S-H
- I want to add each humbucker a DPDT miniswitch on-on-on, for switching between parallel, serie and coil split
- At last I want to make the volume pot for the TB-4 push pull for this little mod:

Is this a good idea? How can I see that the middle pick up is RWRP?

Thx, Olivier

PS: I don't have to worry about making holes in my guitar because there is one big hole in it. I do have to cut in de pickguard, does anyone now how I have to do this?

Oliver, welcome to the forum.

Is the guitar hum canceling in switch positions 2 & 4? If so, the middle pickup is RWRP. If you have a magnet, the top of the pole pieces for the middle pickup should be the opposite polarity of the neck and bridge pickups. It sounds like you will have a very versatile Strat when you are done. Good luck!

I think they are RWRP because the magnet didn't want to stay on the pole pieces in the neck en bridge pick up, but on the middle pick up, it does. Thx for the tip!

Allright. Rock on.

Re: some changes to my squier

I think I'm gonna use 250k pots. I'm gonna use 2 volume pots and 1 tone. The tone is for all the pick ups (now it's only for neck and middle, how do I get this for every pick up?). Then I want 1 volume pot for the bridge and one for de neck and the middle. Do I need a double pot here? With 6 solder points? If i don't need that, can anyone please give me a schematic how I have to do this?

When I'm soldering I maybe somethimes want to see if theres an output if that is done... My dad has some meters wich I can use. Sow: with wich meter I can see if there's an output? I thougt a meter for volt?

measure resistance with ohms across the pickup, the JB will give between 15-17k and the squier pickups between 6-10k if all is ok :)

ok, thanx!

I made this one yesterday:

I don't now if everything is correct, I think so, maybe the 5-way switch isn't...

Uhm... I heard it's not a good idea to do a master tone with seperate volumes, because they would affect each other then... whydo you need 2 volumes?

Because the ouput of the bridge wil be a lot ouder then the output of the squiers stock pick-ups. But there are also other mistakes in de schematic has someone told me. But that's no problem now because the stores here doesn't have the pushpull-pot in stock. Sow it's gonna stay 2 tone, 1 volume. The only mods I'm gonna do is creating the new neck humbucker with the switch, and of course the switch of the TB-4.
