Some good old rockabilly - Wild Flower

I have an old friend who recently sent me over some tracks of some songs, he did back in the 90s, to see if I wanted to play to them. One of the them was "Wild Flower" - a song he did with a band called the Drunkabilles (he is playing the stand up bass). They use to busk on Yonge street in Toronto.

Anyways - I got a hold of the bass, drums and vocal tracks and then tried to put my guitar playing over top. Go easy on me....I can't really say I have ever played rockabilly before except for butchering some Stray Cats in the 80s with my Kramer/Marshall combo (and mentality :0))

Hoot to play with a singer (its been years since I have) and to try to come up with interesting riffs/licks.....

Hey Mackl...great job! Sounds like you had fun. OK...coming from an old schooler... it really is country blues though, not 'Rockabilly'. In this tune, the only 'Rockabilly' element is the vocals (cool inflections). Upright is blues based, no slap and guitar riffs and tones are blues/country based and no slap-back or Rockabilly riffs.

Still cool...

For some great rockabilly guitar basics and lessons, check out Jason Loghlins' 50 rockabilly licks you must know. hes a great teacher and that is a great TrueFire course.
Getting a feel for the genre takes some exploration. Its deeper than many believe.

Cheers and much respect!

Hey - thanks for the info and the comments. I will definitely check that out Truefire course. Love to learn whatever I can.

Well the Rockabilly gods must have been looking down on me (well actually the Easter Bunny). I was checking out the Truefire site and it ended up that they had 50% of their courses - so I downloaded the one that you had recommended (Jason Loghlins' 50 rockabilly licks). Thanks again!

Hey that's cool macki. I paid full price!~ I dig most of the True Fire series, really well done if done in the last 2-3 years. That is a good reference course.. Of course it is all 'licks'...but Jason does a good job at phrasing and he has 'right' tone and technique. Tone and phrasing is EVERYTHING in classic rockabilly. Cheers!!
