Some guitars have a different scale ?????

hi, sorry for all my questions tonight :burnout:

i play mostly metal if it helps to answer this question. what are the different scale (size) guitars? the most common ones at least. and what is the difference?

for example. what is the difference between a 25.5 scale guitar and a "normal" or most common scale guitar?

also when, for example, i see a guitar and the specs say it is a 25.5 scale guitar, is it referring to the neck? thanks. sorry for all the questions

IIRC, it is the distance between the bridge and the nut. The bigger the number, the wider the spaces between the frets (assuming the same number of frets).

And don't worry about the number of questions. You've gotta learn somehow.

no need to apologize here dude. we all learn from each other here.

the 2 most common scales are 25.5 (eg. strats and telecasters) and 24.75 scale (e. les pauls, explorers and SGs) .

25.5 scale guitars have higher tension on strings compared to 24.75 (assumming both have same string sets on them). 25.5 are also more twangy and bright. 25.75s are darker in sound.

oh.. playing metal? both scales are great on metal. there are lotsa examples to demonstrate. look at Metallica, James plays mainly 24.75 and Kirk plays mainly 25.5 scale.
just depends what you personally like.

There's also a 25" scale length (PRS guitars) that falls right between the other two. As previously mentioned, a 24.75 scale will feel a bit looser than a 25.5 scale guitar (with the same string gauge tuned to the same pitch).
