Someone sell me on a tiny terror...

... because there's a used one up the road for an ok price!

i've seen the videos, loved them. i currently run a DSL401 but even after modding it i'm not 100% happy with how it responds or sounds - the DSL's 4x12ax and 4xel84, whereas the TT has two of each.

who's played one for a wee while? i like lush pop tones through to the likes of radiohead through to the likes of QOTSA, tight metal mayhem is a back-seat concern :)

It's the head version, as well. should i be considering downsizing here? since moving to wales i'm out here with no band and i just wanna start enjoying guitar again - the DSL's not an inspiring bit of gear, i must admit.

Haven't used one, but hang in...everything I've heard has been positive, significantly more so than reviews of the DSL 401.

I've played both of those amps before, and in terms of tone, the Tiny Terrorist annihilates the DSL401. You get all the fancy options on a DSL401 but I've struggled to get useable tones from that amp. My experience with a TT was almost opposite.

Turn down the gain and up the volume, you'll get some nice edgy/chimey clean tones. Up the gain and you get a dynamic late 70s/early 80s hard rock crunch. Max the gain and it becomes a wall of fuzz. Lots of alt/pop tones could be found in between I guess. Use highout pickups and a boost for anything more modern, tight or saturated. Differs to a Marshall sound in that it has a slightly soft/organic/fuzzy character to it no matter where the controls are. You may love it or hate it.

The idiot proof layout and simple design make it easy to get a good sound. Not much in the circuit so it's a really touch-sensitive amp and shows the true character of your guitar. If you need lots of clean headroom in a band situation then forget about it. No channel switching either which the DSLs have advantage over.

I want to get one but first I need to unload a lot crap I've got lying around the house.

Re: Someone sell me on a tiny terror...

that's the kind of feedback i need :D

i'm looking at moving on the DSL and a guitar or two, and going tiny terror + ppc212.. the massive 2x12 they do. if i pick up any other head it's still gonna be a workhorse cab - 120w with the stock vintage 30s, only a speaker swap away from most tones!

there's what i'm aiming for though (i have a pretty good job this year and i'm having money to spare even after saving) - orange resale value is pretty rocksteady too :D

for a second amp...the Tiny Terror has always interested me the most...i gotta try one out one of these days!
