Someone tell me good things about the LW HS1 Live Wires Single coils?

Hi Guys.. I'm wondering how the LIve Wire single coils sound in a Strat style guitar with maple neck and Alder body? Would they give me that SRV sound, clean Hendrix sound and yet brutal Zakk Distortion ? Are they capable of it? Where can one buy a set already installed in a pick guard?

Thanks
Tim
(Sorry, it's been awhile since I've been here as I"ve been ill)

God bless

Hey Tim, good to hear you are doing better.

The Hot Live Wires are pretty cool IMHO. They are extremely high in output and did hit the front end of my amps pretty hard. The volume off of the LW-HS set was smular to my Distortion set. Because of their shape they don't sound like a humbucker but more like a very warm and hot single coil. Under gain they sounded incredible.

Clean they are also very nice but it's helpful to have an amp with a lot of headroom. They are very "Strat" sounding but they are warmer than true siingle coils. You won't get as much of the bright spank out of them that you would out of say an SSL-1 set but they are very believeable as far as single coil tone goes.

Can't help you with the loaded pickguard thing. The LW-HS set comes with the proper pots and output jack and I found the install easy enough. It might be worth your while to get a seperate guard and 5 way switch so that if you decide change back, the install will go easier.

I'm putting a guitar together right now that will likely house LW Hot Singles. The Bridge pickup is my favorite of the three. It's really quite robust, yet still has a good bit of Strattines.

If you do a search, Lew (Lewguitar) has made some good comments on them. He has a good ear for vintage strats, and he also likes the LW Hots, which surprised some people. Here are a couple threads I found:

Thank you so much.. I'm really interested in the Active pups Idea for several reasons. I like the idea that they are self grounded as I'm scared of Electricity for many reasons and have been shocked many times in bands.. 2, I want something that will work for a Strat guitar but keep up with a very high output passive Humbucker LP type guitar or humbuckers in general that are passive and high output, and three I like the clarity.. and hate noise and these like EMG's I'm sure are quiet.. I have a couple Strat necks that I want to build new bodies for because I love the necks and then I'll have the bodies routed for these pups I think.. as soon as I figure out what bridge I want to use, which will probably be a string thru the body bridge..
Thanks so much again and thanks for the "Getting Well "Comment.. I'm doing better, but always under the weather a bit.. hehe.. Just gives me more to write about and play the blues / blues rock for! hehe
