I think their website spelled out what they were using during certain eras. I'm fairly certain all the Painkiller album was recorded with master volume rack-mounted Marshalls with the voume knobs cranked. Check their website.

Well I wouldn't actually call Painkiller "old school" Judas Priest but.......
I'd imagine a Marshall was involved...plus by that time Glenn and KK were using Hamer guitars instead of SG's, V's, single coil and humbucker equipted strats. Now I know they used the Hamers live 'cause they were getting worried about taking thier classic axes on the road but the old school axes might have seen some studio duty.

Well they certainly favored delays, chours , phaser and flange.
That's one of the things I liked about JP...they were always mixing things up. I think it was Glenn who said that he was always trying differnt sounds for different songs and never wanting the same solo tone twice.
Just start fiddilin with knobs...it just takes experimentation....not some voodoo magic. Have fun. :dance:

ill beat you to it, im seeing em friday. haha. i actually know that these days (live) they use rocktron pirahna pre-amps. i forget what poweramps, ill look it up later. but in the last G1 there was an interview talking about angel of retribution, and they said they used tons of stuff. sometimes the rack stuff, a lot of old marshalls, even some mesa's.
