Something brighter than a full shred?

I am looking for something with a bit more bite than a full shred bridge? I'd like to stay in the Alnico V arena. Suggestions?

Re: Something brighter than a full shred?

you still have the full shred in? try a 1meg pot

Re: Something brighter than a full shred?

no, it doesn't have to... but my favorite pups thus far are all alnico V, the JB bridge, full shred neck and bridge, jazz as well as burstbucker pros.

Re: Something brighter than a full shred?

Screamin Demon is brighter than the Full Shred. It is A5.

based on specs alone, the Demon will have less output though? Is this correct?

I was looking to stay in the JB/Full Shred output range...

I want a Full Shred or JB that is more "in your face", more attack, brighter etc. Like a Seymour Ducan version of Gibson's BurstBucker Pro...

Re: Something brighter than a full shred?

Try a Custom 5. It's got output like a JB, but is voiced more natural like a 59B.

Suhr SSH+ or Doug Aldrich. For Ceramic, Dimarzio EVO 2. The Tonerider Generator is also like a JB without the mid spike.

Re: Something brighter than a full shred?

I wouldn't stick to a certain magnet. The magnets make a difference but the wind has a lot to do with it as well. I used to be all about A2's and never used anything else in the bridge but now I have a Steve's Special which has a ceramic in it. Never saw that coming but from what I heard and read it was what I wanted. Magnet allegiance is like brand allegiance, stupid.

Just keep your mind open you dont have to stick with an A5.

Re: Something brighter than a full shred?

A cheap alternative is to shorten the screws -- or better yet, buy shorter screws, so you can undo it if you don't like the result. By all accounts this noticeably brightens up the tone. The Gibson (and hence Duncan hummer) standard is 5/40 filisters, 3/4" long. Cheap, easy, effective; what's not to love?

Allen heads are supposed to also give a little more clarity, which is why the FS already has them.

You can also get good results by slightly lowering the pup and raising the screws on one coil, but I dunno how much more effective that'd be on a FS, which is already pretty articulate. (IIRC correctly, it's basically a Custom bridge with a Jazz neck, both using double Allen heads.)

if you want bright you might like something with an a3 magnet, it's like a2 with more treble and tightness.

The full shred screws are already short.

Try the Dimebucker. This may be what you are looking for. (more "in your face", more attack, brighter etc.) That explains it well .

Other than this, Duncan has nothing else that can help you out that has the same or more output.

Based on his expereince with the FS and what he is looking for, I dont think this will be the ticket.

Well, with more output is more midrange generally so the more output the fatter the sound and the less bright it appears. Either get a lower output pickup or get a higher output pickup with a ceramic magnet. Generally speaking ceramics are brighter magnets with lot of highs and lows and not too many mids. Also if you are pumping a lot of gain and distortion back it off a bit if you think you are able to. I have just enough gain so the amp has balls when I palm mute and so that way my OD channel still has punch and clarity as opposed to oodles of saturation. But when it comes to the lead channel, thats a different story. I like fat leads and lots of playability so I have a lot of gain on my lead channel.

Re: Something brighter than a full shred?

I think I might try the Alternative 8? Any thoughts?

Yes...not brighter than a full shred. Rounded highs...A8 midrange (u either love it or hate it) and big lows and low mids...

Try a A8 mag in the Full Shred for something a little more...pissed off and angry...
