Hi all!

I would like a pick up like a 59b but with more mids..no alnico II...i find it lacks low end in comparison with alnico V...

Any suggestions?

The only thing that i think could do what i ask is a 498T..there is something better and maybe more vintage?

Tnx a lot

Mh..isn't too much similar to a 59?
remember somewhere i read that has not so much mids...and the resonant peak is higher in comparison with the 59b so it's more trebly and i don't need more treble.

I like the santana sound..not modern santana sound..but that he had with yamaha sg2000 and early prs..and i find the 59 dead on for the neck..but for the bridge i need a little push on the mids..

Me too. I got the sound I was looking for by using a pair of 250K pots on the bridge PU (500K's on the neck). 250K's shave off some treble & bring out the mids. I like the PU's balanced in EQ, so that one amp setting works well for both PU's, without having to adjust the tone pots. Sounds like this is what will work for you too.

i've heard the brobucker was made for this

or you could get that fender mid booster clapton thing

I think the Duncan Custom might be what you're looking for. Lew

I had a PG+ in a Strat and swapped in a 59. I found the differences quite subtle.
Right, the Brobucker would fill in decently.
I also could think a 59 with a A8, the A8 smoothed out the highs and brought in more mids everytime i swapped them in.
And at least the JazzB has the best attitude of the 59, but more mids and less scoop.

Why not degauss the A5 magnet a bit? That will flatten the EQ and give some sweet harmonics, while preserving the general feel of A5.

Try something with an alnico 4 magnet. A4 has more mids and a little less high and low than a5. It's between a5 and a2 but closer to a5. I veered between a5 and a2 for a long time in my Les Pauls before I discovered that a4 is my magnet!

Aph1.

I don't think the PG does it. The PG has a very wired low-mid spike and still non of the clarity of A5.

Usually it's as easy as looking on the tone comparison chart, and finding the one with more mids on the EQ and then picking by position and what your other desires are. I'll echo the sentiments of one of them, however: the Pearly Gates Plus has lots of mids, and still sounds sort of vintage, like a higher output '59 with a touch more mids. However, it's technically a bridge position pickup. It's also got more of a JB sound, so it can probably do metal, but it depends on amp and pedals, etc.
