Sonar Home Studio 7

Is anyone using this? How intuitive is it?

MF has a 15% discount this weekend and I'm considering getting some recording software. I have nothing right now and I don't want a program that's exotic/overly complex.

Actually, I'm only trying to take advantage of the pricing but won't be able to use the program until I invest in a computer upgrade.

I know everyone has their preferences for recording gear, but the advertising blurbs for the Sonar have convinced me that it will suit my "needs".

Comments ....... suggestions?

I'm a long time Logic user and tried Sonar about a year ago, I didn't find it that intuitive. It is supposed to have a great sound engine though.

If you're a Windows user, you should have no problem with Sonar. Every DAW has its own strengths/weaknesses. I prefer Cubase, some ppl prefer Logic, others prefer Sonar.

Regardless, it will sound GREAT.

Cakewalk products fall into the "avoid at all costs" camp for me.

Seems like maybe once a year or so I end up at somebodies home studio where they have Cakewalk software installed and it always sucks. My biggest gripe besides non-conformity is actually GETTING the tracks out of the program.

Cakewalk, I guess to make things "simple" doesn't use a folder hierarchy for songs & keeping all your audio files neatly organized and separated. Instead, no matter how many songs you have or folders you create it lumps the audio files into one BIG folder and gives them random names like "hhtyfge6766.wav" which is completely boggling.

Yes... you name them on screen, in the mixer etc. but unless they've updated something in the latest versions its just one big dumping ground.

Which is fine as long as you never want to export anything & collaborate with other people...

The version of Cubase that comes with a lot of audio interfaces is pretty solid... can do a lot with that.
