I really hope this is the right forum, if not I am sorry. Hey guys!

I have got a band set up.( finally!!!) we are wanting to do country, but we wanna keep the rock-ish element. We have a male and a female that can sing. Could you guys please give us some song suggestions that would go over with the crowd? If you are in a rocking country band, advice would be great. Thanks guys!

I haven´t played it live but how about Guitars, Cadillacs by Dwight Yoakam?

Is your surname Bayley by any chance?

Re: Song list for rocking country band?

if you can play the parts, some Brad Paisley would get me into it, and I don't even like Country. I find a lot of the "America...f yeah" type songs to be a bit polarizing and they usually turn me off right away....

I don't play country but I listen to it occassionally when I'm with my family. I would stray away from doing to much patriotic stuff. I wouldn't say no patriotic songs because that pretty much eliminates your choices but make sure you mix it up enough

A few suggestions that came to mind right away:

White Lightning - The Big Bopper
455 Rocket - Kathy Mattea (written by Gillian Welch)
100 Years From Now - The Byrds
Home Grown - Neil Young
Morning Dew - The 31st of February (an early band of Duane and Greg Allman)

This list could go on for pages, but there's a handful for you to listen to and consider.

NRBQ - This Ol' House (Later covered in the UK by Shakin' Stevens.)
VU/Nico - All Tomorrow's Parties (Original resembles The Byrds. Might as well go the whole hog.)

Check out The Basement by Bob Dylan & The Band.
Many Ramones songs "country up" surprisingly well.
Ditto AC/DC and Banquet/Bleed/Exile-era Rolling Stones.

For something slower, try The Messiah Will Come Again by Roy Buchanan.

Shaver - Georgia On A Fast Train
Shaver - Hottest Thing In Town

Freebird!!!! :)

Seriously - A little Lynyrd Skynyrd, like "Sweet Home Alabama" might fit in nicely. I like the Shaver suggestion too.
