Re: Songwriting tips ?

I try to capture a certain emotion or memory I have into a song, the mood is the most important part.

Mostly, I start playing around (this should match with the mood you're in), nothing on my mind and during this procedure a hookline could develop and I work on it.

BUT! The best songs are written in just a few minutes and just going with the flow is the "truest" way to make music. :D

Also, I use piano to have another approach on melody and chord voicings.

Try to get a decent melody or two going. Once you have that you can fit the rest of the song around the melody . . . the rhythm usually just falls into place and you can figure out what chords sound right over the notes you're playing.

The other thing that I find really helps is recording everything you play . . . if it turns out to be crap then you can delete it later, but sometimes you get a great idea that will blossom into a song.

Re: Songwriting tips ?

well i mostly wake up with an idea (riff .melody ,a bridge whatever) ,turn the computer on ,play it raw but with metronome /drum machine...And then sleep again!

next day ,i wake up with nothing in mind ,and totally "erased"mfrom the idea.So i turn my computer on again 8
(yes i turned off that night) ,and hear what i played.

After recording that idea tighter and better,I begin to double track it and use midi drumms. So i create a whole idea in my mind.I record it on my minidisc ,and begin to hear it on subway etc. When i "have" it ,i begin to build a song among it.

But sometimes ,i just jam and find some good ideas ,paste them .and cut the corners rounder!
