Soon to be "NGD"!

Hey guys!
So about half a year ago i bought myself a squier vintage modified strat which i just loved. It just seems nicer than any other squier i have tried(except from the jim root one" and i got it really cheap on some type of once in ten years sale new...

So i decided to mod it, some time ago i asked here on this forum about best pickups for it, turned out to be the invaders.
Now a couple of weeks ago i went and wanted to order them, but they was waaay more expensive here in norway than i thought(dont even ask how much...haha) so i ordered the Dimarzio D-Activator x bridge which i have heard a lot if good opinions on, and it just arrived.
I also sanded the poly of the neck, and the neck heel
Now the thing is that i am about to cut out a chrome steel pickguard to it(gonna match the hardware!) Its going to be a hum' in the bridge and the stock single coil neck that came with the strat...

Then i removed the old pickguard and see that the serial number inside the pickup cavity does not match the one on the back of the headstock.

I also think the neck is something that looks like higher quality than the usual squier stuff...
(Hope i did'nt bore you guys)..

So here are my questions:
How can i wire the single coil (it has only one red and one black(ground i assume) wire.
With the humbucker?
My plan was to wire it up with a 3way selector where it goes like this:
Pos1: bridge humbucker
Pos2: split bridge &neck
Pos3: neck
Now, will the splitted bridge overpower the "vintage" output sc neck? Or Should i just wire it to a "on-on"(is it even possible?) Switch?
Also, what does the serial number of the body mean?(will attach the picture)
And is there anything i need to do when using a steel pickguard as far as grounding goes?
Oh, and could the heel contour in any way affect the tuning stability?...

(The heel, and yes i do oil all the wood i expose)

So i really struggle with the wiring...been reading about it and trying to find stuff out for like 6days... Also ill just do one volume pot and the switch.
Thank you for even reading this guys!

Re: Soon to be "NGD"!

Do you have pics of the headstock front and back? I don't recall seeing flame on a Squier neck.

I'd discourage you from using steel or even aluminum pickguards. They often impart a brighter tone to the guitar, and sometimes vibrate in a way that causes microphonics in conjunction with your pickups.

On candy red, I prefer mint, parchment, black, or tortoise shell.

A humbucker will often sound louder than vintage spec single coils, so you'll find out whether or not it works for you. With HS setups, I'm more into putting an Allparts 3 way Gibson style switch that's short enough to fit in the strat's cavity, then one volume control, a humbucker and something like a Hot Rail neck.

The contoured heel shouldn't affect anything as long as it's a tight connection.

Re: Soon to be "NGD"!

Thank you! Yeah thats exactly what i thought about the flames too, will post a pic of the number...well the thing is that i dont have a possibility to get a pickguard from a store. So ill make one instead, and think it would look really great, so any other option might be tricky for me...also i have heard that metal pickguards can improve the grounding if properly used?

And thiis is the back of the headstock...could i just have been lucky with wood and parts or something, also the back of the pickup says "STA5N(fender)-VC"...?

Re: Soon to be "NGD"!

IMO, none of the wooden parts shown in your photographs is from a Squier Vintage Modified Stratocaster.

The rear of the headstock is correct for an MIC Squier Stratocaster, such as the Classic Vibe series. (The VM is "Crafted in Indonesia".) The heel of the neck shows five fastening screw holes - one of which is redundant and another is non-original.

The chamfered heel and tapered neck screw anchor plate are not features of any Squier VM series Stratocaster that I have yet seen.

Your guitar is a "cut 'n' shut" Bitsa. :(

EDIT - The pickup identifier label STA5N(fender)-VC is correct for an MIC Squier Classic Vibe series guitar. Some pickups used in the CV range are sourced from Tonerider Pickups. Not bad units but not exactly SD Antiquity II Surfers.

Alright, thank you for the info! But then what about the body serial number, also, would a steel pickguard really affect the tone that much?

Re: Soon to be "NGD"!

The neck is a classic vibe, but I can't find any fender serial numbers consistent with your body.

Re: Soon to be "NGD"!

No iknow...I have tried to find it myself, it sounds great tho, and seems to be a 2piece body...

Re: Soon to be "NGD"!

Well if it sounds good, play the crap out of it.....Usually the 2 conductors on a pickup is a good indicator that it is 1 Hot and 1 ground....1 to the volume pot lug and the black to ground usually. I have 2 guitars like that and I look to change out the pups in the near future to some SDs to match my other guitar I put the JB/Jazz in.

Re: Soon to be "NGD"!

Thank you! But the thing is that here in norway its damn hard to get a pickguard, especially with the cpnfiguration of pickups, and switches, so i dont have too many options, unless there is some kind of plastic i can get which is reasonably easy to cut out without it breaking...

Re: Soon to be "NGD"!

Dremel makes good pickguard cutting tools and GFS sells blanks fairly inexpensive

*(Sent from my durned phone!)*

Re: Soon to be "NGD"!

Yeah i do already have pretty much every tool I would ever need...would wood be a good option for a pickguard?
