Sound packs, instruments, and VSTs, oh my.

MEGAINFRACTOR!
I'm finally finding time to mess with all of my 'gear'. I have a little setup with pads, launchpad/control and a keyboard for music "production" - I make noise... Anyone know where I can scout some free sounds? I have Ableton - which I prefer - but also paid for Reason Essentials, Studio One 2, and have the obligatory Reaper installed. Ableton's preferred because it's pretty straight forward and also directly supports all of the Launchpad stuff. I don't have FL, so there you go. All of this plugs in directly or through my Presonus 22vsl box. Fun times, but frustratingly boring after a while. Is there an easy way to patch my direct guitar input to change the sound to something that isn't pedal-ish? For example, I want it to sound like a cello? I ask a similar question every couple of years, but this time I'm actually in the middle of using all of this crap, so I am more inclined to get on the ball and install whatever's suggested. :D .

Thanks!

I have one. I don't have a 1/4" convertor, though. Is it needed for guitar?

I should imagine so.

In the video above, Belew is using a dedicated iPad Dock audio/MIDI interface device. If you already have an I/O device for your computer DAW and it has USB 2.0 sockets, you ought to be able to obtain a USB-to-iPad interconnect cable.

Thanks guys!! I will check all of these out :) .

I remember a free program in which I could set notes on a staff - basically "programming" the music. It was great for orchestral stuff (the only thing I really know). Anyone know the name?
