South Africa's very first locally made High Gain Amp Co.

Re: South Africa's very first locally made High Gain Amp Co.

With the current exchange rate of this week, the head is $1538.00 USD.

Now keep in mind, this is a country where a Marshall JCM800 2203 RI will set you back $4847.00 USD (on the same exchange rate) and Mesa's are not being imported any more.

looks like a cool head and for 1.5k vs 4.8k i would sure try it out if i was looking for a head for metal

Re: South Africa's very first locally made High Gain Amp Co.

Not my thing but it's always cool to see a new company fill that kind of void.

ATT : all you uber-high gain amp players / lovers / owners.

What do you think of this ?

Please be very honest.

I don't like the MDF headshell. I don't know what the cost difference on MDF vs plywood is in SA, but if I were them that's one of the first things I'd upgrade.

Is this any good ? (referring to the youtube clips on the official site.
Is it just OK ?
Is it too generic sounding ?
Is the SS Gorilla better ?

It's difficult to tell without being able to play through it myself and the demos don't tell me much because of their focus on a tone that I don't personally use. If you know them, I'd tell them to use a wider variety of guitarists/guitar styles in their demos. Mesa sells a lot of Rectos not only because of metal... but because there's a lot of rock, punk, pop and even some blues guys that play them.

id like to see ply for weight savings but using mdf for the head shell wont effect the tone

Re: South Africa's very first locally made High Gain Amp Co.

I was thinking of it from a durability standpoint.

Cool looking head! And good on them for starting up, wish them the best!

Re: South Africa's very first locally made High Gain Amp Co.

Def cool looking !!! Like the switches! Cant listen to any clips at work. Wonder if the Kraken name causes any probs with Victory Amp's Kraken model??

Ive been pretty impressed by the demos Ive heard of Panama amps too.. Those seem built very well at a good price point too.

Why doesn't Mesa ship there anymore??

NO idea . . . it could be because of the bad exchange rate, but i am just guessing now.
