Re: Spare guitar

Not really. I use all my guitars.
If you don't want to sell it, I'd modify it in some way to make it more your style. You know, paint it a different colour or something.

Re: Spare guitar

Not that I'm asking for anything....

But I've worked with several collectors and guitar players in the past to provide under-privileged kids with guitars, amps, pedals; etc.

I did this before. I gave away my Starcaster, a cable, and the amp it came with. I never really played the guitar after I got a Squier and a new amp, so why not get rid of it? I'm sure he gets more enjoyment out of my old $100 guitar than I'm getting out of my $500 hamer and $450 line 6.

Warmoth converstion neck, gets your strat to Gibson scale... I can't view the site for some reason, but I figure you could get one for 200-300 (look in the showcase).

You're a good person in my eyes my man...

I've given away guitars to my guitar students (who always show up with some Walmart guitar)

I've helped to give away 2 PRS SEs, 5 MIM Strats, a Starcaster and just recently, a Line6 amp.

It's good to give back.

I remember what it was like to have a POS guitar and wish that I had nicer gear...

I know it's frustrating when I was learning to play and the guitar wouldn't stay in tune. Y'know?

But anyway.... I digress.....

You've got good mojo coming your way!!!

Re: Spare guitar

I remember the very day in 1994 that I switched from a Gibson fret length to a Fender. We were playing in a small club that night and I'd bought the guitar that same day. I had problems with the frets, because they just weren't as big as I was used to (and I fixed that the next week), but the SOUND was amazing! Now, I still hate Fenders, but use them religiously. I can't explain it, but then, I'm a sick man..

Re: Spare guitar

Spray-paint it Dayglo orange, plaster it with collectible Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle stickers, and play only Phish tunes. It's a spare.

Any other quandaries I can resolve for you?

tune it down 1/2 step and put a capo on the first fret:18:

Try using a lower guage string and play in lower tunings. It will give you a bit of a looser feel. Won't feel like a Gibson, but won't be as tight feeling.

Re: Spare guitar

without reading the above, apologies for repeats:

#1 detune, drop tune, alternate tuning, open tuning
#2 If open tuning, set up fo slide! (scale not really an issue!)
#3 Use it as a luthier practice guitar - frets, action, wiring, whatever
#4 Warmoth neck swap
#5 finishing practice - strip & paint; repeatedly
#6 tribute guitar - set up like a fave star's axe
#7 functional wall decoration
#8 second axe for Nigel Tufnel solo
#9 Hock it for a better guitar you will play
