I have an older Traynor amp that is very much like a Deluxe Reverb with EL-84's. I'm looking for the best 12" speaker out there for it.

There is no "best" speaker... There are many speakers out on the market, all having unique voicings. All we can do is point you in the right direction, but you'll have to supply more information regarding the type of tone you're looking for. In addition, wattage and imedance will help us get you the right specs once we've narrowed down the choices.
As far as brands are concerned, I prefer Celestion, however Eminence makes a good product for less cost.

I've tried many, many speakers in my blackface DR's: original 50's and 60's Jensen P12Q, C12Q, C12NA...Electrovoice SRO and EVM...Weber P12Q, C12B, P12B, C12N...Celestion G12 alnico blue, G12M25 Greenback and Blackback, Modern Lead 70, Classic 80, G12H30 and Vintage 30.
The two "best" by far are what I've used in my two original blackface DR's now for several years: the Celestion G12H30 and the Vintage 30.
I slightly prefer the G12H30 for it's smoother highs, thicker and more textured mids and deeper and louder bass.
The V30 is brighter and has a little more of a hollow pluck to the tone and also a little less bass compared to the G12H30.

I have a Legend 121 in an Ampeg Reverberocket II, and it's a loud and big sound. However, I'm thinking about replacing it with a Cannabis Rex, which I think will sound great with a DR, too. The Jensen C12N is supposed to be excellent, too. I did not like the Jensen P12Q at all, but the Neo 12 is dynamite -- very loud, big, warm, and balanced. So, I would look to the Eminence CR, Jensen Neo 12, or perhaps the C12N.

I just A/B'd the Vintage 30, G12H and a 2x12 with Vintage 30/G12H, volume on the Traynor was half way, as were treble and bass, and I used a 1980 Les Paul Classic. The Vintage 30 won easily, as the G12H was too muddy for my taste - case in point the bass was flabby to my ears even on the bridge pup. Anyway, I'm a treble seeker, so...Lewguitar said:

Sounds like the V30 is the one for you then!
Like I said, I used V30's for a long time. It is brighter than the G12H30 and because it has less mids and bass than the G12H30 it does seem to be clearer. Most players prefer the fatter tone of the G12H30 though. I like them both! Lew
