Speaker Help/ID

My son bought a new in box Eminence speaker from a private party for $60.00. It is a 12" Legend. The label is sort of red, white and blue. It is supposed to be 8 ohm, how can you tell? Does anyone know what wattage this thing will handle and what type of tone or quality this speaker is? We are just starting to replace the tubes and speakers in his Traynor YCV80. He is kind of rounding up the pieces one at a time as money and opportunity present themselves.
Thanks For Your Time

Re: Speaker Help/ID

Impedance is easy - just measure it with a volt-ohm meter or DVM. It won't read exactly the rated impedance, just the DC resistance - but it's close enough that you can tell. An 8-ohm speaker will read 6 or 7 ohms, a 4-ohm speaker will read about 3 ohms. Like that.

As for the exact model - look for some sort of name or model number, then check out Eminence's web site for a description. Of course, it may be a 'special', built custom for an amp manufacturer. Those will be harder to find information on, but I'm sure Eminence can help you via e-mail.

Thanks Rich S -
I will give that a try. My son has a 1 year old cat that loves any type of box or bag. While we were looking at the speaker, the cat was busy tearing up the foam packing and the spec sheet. All we can make out is that it is a GB12 with a copper coil and 38oz. magnet.
Thanks Again
