speaker questions

so i wanna make a cab and i have some 12in speakers i got outta a record player and i noticed the connections look alil odd. i have some pics i took. im not to concerned about ohms because im gonna use a hotone nano legacy british invasion head and it says it can handle anything between 4-16 ohms but the connectors are my main concern like how to hook this thing up to an input jack which reminds me what kinda jack do i get?

Re: speaker questions

You can touch a 9v battery to the leads and see the speaker push out. Than you'll know you found positive and negative. My bet is that two of those poles are wired the same and one is different.

It's hard to say what type of plug you need to connect it. It's different than any speaker I've seen. I'd look around online.

Re: speaker questions

You could reuse those connectors, or I would think you may be able to solder to the pins. Looking at your pics, it looks like the two outside pins are the ones to use.

so if it isnt obvious yet this is my 1st cab build so what kinda jack would i use? and can anyone point me to a (i know it sounds stupid but im not incredibly technologically gifted) wireing diagram?

Re: speaker questions

ok i think i found an ok diagram

but now i gotta know what kinda jack am i supposed to use? will your run of the mill 1/4in mono guitar output jack work and whats ring and whats tip on one of those??

Re: speaker questions

Ok, I get what you were asking. Yes a 1/4" mono phone jack. The tip is the spring/finger portion, and the ring is the ring/hole that the plug is inserted into/though.

Re: speaker questions

You're probably "gonna" blow it up eventually. But give it shot.

That speaker is a Quam(Quam - Nichols) and it was made the 8th week of either 1955,1965 or 1975. Looks old to me. '55 or '65.

270 is the Quam manufacturers code. 505 gives the date. http://www.unclespot.com/speakerEIAcodes.html

thats why i was gonmna use the british invasion head cuz i figure the speaker is proably from the 60s

Re: speaker questions

well if i wanted the townsend sound i just start smashing stuff lol no i just like the sound of that specific amp and figured i have spare speakers

Go for it. Experience is how we learn what works and what doesn't.

I think you're going to learn what doesn't work this time but that's valuable too.
