Speaker recommendation for a Champ style amp

I would like to replace the Celestion Super 8 speaker in my Laney Cub 8 with something brighter and clearer in overdriven settings.

The Jensen C8R seems a logical choice, but I would appreciate if you can share your experience with other 8 inch speakers.

Thank you.

Re: Speaker recommendation for a Champ style amp

I haven't used their 8" speakers but if I needed one I would look at Weber speakers! Have used a few of their 12" and their Weber signature series are what come stock on some fender champ reissues. The signature series has a bonus of being inexpensive! The Chicago series is American Jensen/Oxford style replacement speakers and are what I would look at personally. Good luck!

Also nearly anything you get will likely sound better than the Celestion super 8. The super series are bottom of the line Celestion and are very cheap things made just to have a "Celestion" label on a functioning speaker in the unit so, yeah anything should be an upgrade!

Thanks. Weber has the largest selection in this size.

I heard the "cannabis based speakers" were real nice- with a smooth, warm tone ;)...

being a long time pothead, I'd want one myself \m/

hemp cone speakers tend to be darker which isnt what the op seems to be asking for. weber makes great speakers

Make sure you leave your self some headroom in the wattage of the speaker. In a 12 watt amp, I would use a 25-watt speaker. A lot of smaller amps are designed to give a bit of speaker break up. If you are looking for cleaner not pushing the speaker to it's limits is one lever you can push to get to your goal.

Of course. The C8R is 25 watts, and the Blue Pup is 15, so that´s covered.

Eminence makes the 820H, a hemp coned speaker. The cones are made by A Broun Sound, the makers of Tubby Tone hemp speakers. I don know who does the new hemp speaker for Fender, they aren’t standard Eminence speakers.

I use a 50 watt C-Rex with my 5 watt Picovalve and love it.
