Speaker suggestions

I was thinking about doing a speaker swap in my Fender Concert II 4X10. I mostly use the amp itself clean and get my dirt from pedals (Wampler Triple Wreck and MI Audio Crunchbox), but I'd like to be able to get a good dirty sound from the amp as well. However, that's really not happening with my current set up. I may need to swap the pre amp tubes as well.

I've got no clue about 10 inch speakers or preamp tubes, so what do you guys suggest?

Re: Speaker suggestions

Getting a good dirty sound from a big bottle fender means turning it up and I imagine your amp would be causing structural damage to the house before the grind gets going. Swapping out 4 speakers won't be cheap either. I suggest you either deal with what you've got or find another amp with less power that you can get the power tubes working more.

I know that it won't be cheap and getting the dirty sound from the amp isn't that big of a deal.

Re: Speaker suggestions

I just paired my buddy AJ's Vox Night Train amp with a pair of Jensen Reissue C10Q's. Sure sounds great!

The Victoria 4 x 10 tweed Bassman I had, had Jensen Reissue P10R's. Those sound good too. Jeff Beck is using them in his Pro Juniors.

But I'm a Weber fan when it comes to 10's. I have not gotten around to memorizing all of their 10" speaker model designations though.

The Weber 10 I really love, and which I use in my 50's Fender tweed Harvard (the one in my Avatar) is labeled "P10RT". It's the Weber 10 I had a hand in beta testing and it's Weber's "best" version of a P10R and uses a ribbed cone. The Guy Who Invented Fire uses one in his Mission Amps V Front tweed Super.

That's the one that I use and it's my favorite alnico 10" speaker. It has a new number but it's the one Weber used to call the P10RT.
