Speakers for Thiele Ported Cab?

I'm looking at an unloaded Thiele-ported cab. It's a Mesa clone. I know those were designed around EV12L, and that Mesa sometimes loaded C90s into them, but I'm not wanting to spend a bunch of money on speakers. Has anyone here loaded one of these with guitar speakers other than the EVs or Eminence Deltas, and if so, which ones? How did you like them?

Do I need to be concerned with particulars, or can I just find a decent sounding speaker and throw it in? My gut is that any reasonably clear and uncolored speaker would do ok, but I say this based on no concrete knowledge whatsoever.

Have you considered Celestion Seventy/80's? That's what I used @ first for mine, I've since replaced them but only because I got a really good deal on a pair of Creambacks! Actually, I got 2 8 ohm Seventy/80's that are nearly new, you can have them for cheap if you want to pay for the shipping???? If you don't mind spending a little more Vintage 30's & Creambacks are both good choices for you but they are also fairly costly unless you find a good deal on eBay or something?

some speakers will definitely sound better in a ported cab than others. theres formulas and stuff but some speaker manufacturers list specs on what cabs the speaker models like to see

I'm having trouble making heads or tails out of it. I'm mainly just looking to see if anyone has any that they've used that they like.

Unfortunately, I need 16 ohm.

Screw the expense. EV12L or nothing. (I have two of these cabs. They are extraordinarily efficient. They even make a 5w valve amp head sound loud enough.)
