Speakers speakers and more speakers....

Im lookin for some speakers. A buddy has a line 6 spider cab with 4 celestion g12p-80 12" speakers. I have a crate cab with 4 bugera speakers i picked up from a local shop. The cab is solid but im less than impressed with the quality of the bugerra speakers. There too floppy on the low end. I saw a kit from guitar center with 2 emminence texas heat's and 2 swamp thang's. Ive got a bugera 333 xl infinium head. I play metal. Everything from power metal to deathcore. I want tight punchy bass with good mids and highs. Anyone have any expierence with the emminence speakers? Or the celestions?

What makes you think that it is the speakers and not the cab? "Solidly built" does not mean much if the cabinet is designed in a way that has overhang on its own. Marshall cabs are solidly built, but flex like a palm tree in a wind storm when under high SPLs; that bass overhang is part of their design. I have 2 very inert cabs (Rivera and Hiwatt) and both weigh about 100 lbs when loaded with speakers; they are also constructed of solid birch ply (marine ply in the case of the Hiwatt, I think). They have VERY clean LF response regardless of the speakers I place in them.

That is true. Im assuming since its a crate that its not made with quality wood. And it is a bit bigger than the line 6 cab. I also havent heard anything good about bugera's speakers or there cabs for that matter. By solid i meant its in good shape. No holes or rips and tears in the tolex. Its the crate gt412sl cab if that helps any. When it was new it had celestion speakers in it.

Re: Speakers speakers and more speakers....

I used to have one of the mid-90's Crate slant cabs years ago. There was a nasty resonance issue with it when using palm mutes. I eventually got tired of the terrible extraneous noise and replaced the cab with Genz-Benz G-Flex 2x12"s. Tight low-end for DAYS.

Anyway, you might not be able to overcome the poor cabinet design/contruction with speaker changes. Some research into proper cabinet bracing and sealing may help some, without spending more than the price of the cab on speakers. That said, I have some experience with Celestion Vintage 30's. I play similar music styles to you, and they're quite good for that purpose.
