Spector Performer 5. Yay or nay?

Its currently the only five string with humbuckers in my budget, that I know of. What are some other five strings with humbuckers or should I stick with the Spector?

Nay. I had one of the 4 stringers, and there's no comparison to the next production tier. Try the SUB Ernie Ball import line...

How about a little wood Corvette?

Both look like MIK Pro Line variants.

I have an MIG four string example, loaded with SD Active EQ series two switch J pickups. Even with narrow pickups, the sound is big.

I might go with either of these

Those look nice. I'd like to check out some of the 4 strings in person.

Re: Spector Performer 5. Yay or nay?

The Corvette is the model that Warwick had to stop building in Germany because they were losing money on them.

Be warned. The stock, passive, noise-cancelling MEC Dynamic Correction J pickups are disappointing. They are plenty loud but lack the high end clarity, growl and bounce of traditional Fender style pickups. (Rather like EMG HZ pickups, in fact.)

Active MEC J pickups are better but not as nice as EMG or SD/Basslines products.

Needless to say, J-sized pickup routs do not oblige anyone to install J-sounding pickups. IMHO, a Bartolini 9JL/S pair would suit a Murfreesboro Metal Mutha.
