Speedster Turbo Charger

I tried a Speedster Turbo Charger pedal yesterday and was impressed. I tried a bunch of pedals through a Bad Cat Mini Cat and it sounded the best to my ears for that amp. Not sure how it would sound on another amp. I'm starting to realize that some pedal like some amps and not others. It was the most musical and not that pre-amp gainy. I might buy it but I'm thinking to have my tubescreamer moded instead. My TS is a recent model and it's just noisy and pre-amp gainy.

Anybody else try one of these pedels. They're $225.

Re: Speedster Turbo Charger

It looks impressive......but it wasn't pre-amp gain sounding? I have been drooling over the Love Pedal Eternity...which is very close but has changeable chips. A local shop has a old Klon Centaur I wish I could pick up. I wonder what the turbo charger would sound like in front of my Dr. Z??????? :13:

Re: Speedster Turbo Charger

When I say it wasn't pre-amp gainy-sounding, I mean it was less harsh than most overdrive pedals. It added lots of hair but it was smooth and harmonic, very natural sounding. I only tried it on the Bad Cat Mini Cat which is a 5 watt class A amp with an EL-84 and 12AX7 tube.

Which Dr. Z do you have? If it's clasa A, the Speedster Turbo Charger might sound good.

Last time I was at that shop, I tried the new Dr Z Mini Z and that thing cranks. It's only got one knob, volume, and even at 9:00 on the volume it's too loud for my home jamming. I thinks it's only five watts, too.

The other pedals I tried just added harshness to the Mini Cat. I can't remember them all but I tried like 10 boutique pedals, most of them I had never heard of. I have a Blues Drive and tube screamer and neither of them do much for the Mini Cat.
