Spin-A-Split Mod....

Anyone ever try this mod? For those of you who use your tone controls at full blast, and use humbuckers, this mod rocks. I did this on my EBMM Morse. I stuck the stock pickups back in (that's another story). I wanted a Strat sound from my neck pickup. I always leave the tone control on full so I thought, at the recommendation of a fellow EBMMer, do the Spin-a-Split mod. It is way cool and I can see it playing a big part in my playing. I leave the tone/blend pot all the way down even when I solo with the neck pickup; until I want that big, full neck humbucker tone. Then I dial it in and it's huge!

Try it....

Re: Spin-A-Split Mod....

i've tried it, but it was on my pearly gates in stock form. i'm sure in the right application it's a great mod but it didn't work for me, and i missed having a tone control:dunno:

Re: Spin-A-Split Mod....

i missed having a tone control

I can understand that. I do use my tone control on my Tele all the time. On my More though, it's always wide open. Also, I have always had the best luck splitting higher-output pickups. I don't think a PG would split well; but I'm not very experienced with that pickup.

it definitely didn't split well, it was very harsh and brittle. but it splits pretty nicely as it is now with an a8 in there(though i hardly use that mode)

Have you taken any readings with a multimeter since you added the A8 magnets? I'd be interested in the DC resistance change.

Re: Spin-A-Split Mod....

Changing magnets won't change the DC resistance. They might change AC impedance.

Tempurature will change DC resistance.

Re: Spin-A-Split Mod....

Spin-a-split is a great mod, that should be common on factory guitars, along with the coil swap mod. These are extremely useful & easy to wire. No excuse for the big manufacturers not to use these. Look at some of the stupid cosmetic things they do to guitars these days...how about putting some effort into tone options?

Re: Spin-A-Split Mod....

Spin-a-split works great with a tapped Quarter Pound Tele. I've used it in multiple guitars over the years.
