Splawn Pro Mod clip - Metal

Seymour Duncan Customer Support
This is a quick 1-riff clip recorded with a Splawn Pro Mod through a Splawn 4x12 cabinet. The cab has Emi Governers and Man O Wars in an X pattern - this clip is one of the Man O Wars close-mic'd on axis with a SM57 and then double-tracked.

sounds awesome man! gotta love them splawns ;)

Thanks Shreder! Aren't those cabs great? I've never had a better-sounding cab, and for under $800 for an all-US-made cabinet it sort of feels like cheating. :D

You can't help it if you love your rig. I completely understand. My constant amp quest (in which I burned through about four different high-gain tube heads in about a year) ENDED when I got my Pro Mod and 4x12. It's the first rig I've ever owned that sounds "right" to me every time I power it up.

I hadn't thought about posting this on HC. Probably will, though.

If I had EQ'd the track even a little you wouldn't hear any sponginess - I didn't have a lot of time to do the clip because band rehearsal was about to start, so I just kind of threw it together to a click track and made the drums later.

Thanks, btw!

Re: Splawn Pro Mod clip - Metal

Yeah that's an EQ thing ... I used very little bass on my stereo and couldn't tell anything spongy...

Does this amp use KT88?

Good guess - yes it does. It came stock with JJ's KT88s but I recently retubed it with SED tubes and I like it a bit more - still super tight but a bit warmer in the mids.

Re: Splawn Pro Mod clip - Metal

No I was wondering why it is modern sounding and took a look at the splawn homepage....
Bob at eurotubes suggested me KT88s btw but that's another story...

What guitar and PUs used? No overdrive I guess?

No OD. I used a vintage SG Junior with a P-90 in the bridge straight into the amp. KT88s are the bomb.

Re: Splawn Pro Mod clip - Metal

not my style of tone ,but awesome to hear it.Something like Nevermore stuff ,and with overdubbing it will sound killer. You made me curious about the amps soso..shame on you :)
