Split Custom?

Re: Split Custom?

The custom split sounds very good quite alot of bite, very stratty in my mahognay guitar, it cuts through nicely in the mix, and has enough output to blend with the neck humbucker in series.

Re: Split Custom?

i second dills statement, it really does sound strat like and does blend like a champ with a warmer neck pup

Re: Split Custom?

I have a split Custom Custom (not the same, I know) and it has good lows, chimey highs, and strong enough output to blend with the full APH in the neck.

Re: Split Custom?

On a side note, do you guys think a custom with large guage strings (.10-.52) would be to "heavy" sounding as opposed to .10-.46?

I've been wondering and don't know if it even matters....

Re: Split Custom?

I think that while changing string guages always affects your tone, I do NOT think it's ever going to be a deal maker/breaker.

Re: Split Custom?

I also had a Custom split in an Epi LP Custom and it was great. Very nice cleans, although I can't comment on the distorted sound, I only used it for cleans, especially combined with my neck pup also split (PG at the time). I had outstanding cleans with this setup. Very Strat-like.

Re: Split Custom?

ya i dont think the string gauge will really make much difference. I do think personally that heavier gauge strings do sound better. I usually use 11-48 but am trying something a little different and switched to 10-48. I basically use the 3 thinnest strings from the .10's pack to help with faster soloing and stamina and keep the 3 heavier strings from my .11's pack so my rythms still sound chunky and i can detune a bit without getting flabby strings syndrome.
