split one mic to 2 inputs

I record on a computer using a US-122 usb interface by tascam. In order to record you have to have 2 mics to record in stereo if not there is only sound on one side. The mono switch does nothing. I need something that allows me to use on mic and plug into both jacks. I looked at Radio shake for a y adaptor that would allow me to do this but could not find one. Any suggestion? The reason I want to use one mic is I finally bought a shure sm57 and I no longer want to record vocals and guitar with crappy mics.

A fellow kentuckian! I've never heard anyone splitting an xlr cable. If you want a stereo signal record mono and copy that track to another track and you'll have a stereo track for panning. Your mono signal your recording shouldn't be on one side or the other but right down the middle.

Bingo to what Vinterland said. I have had similar recording issues, and it's what I did. The bonus is that you can use your software to EQ the different sides of the track differently if you wanted (if it doesn't already allow that) and more! Oh what fun!
