Splitting Active Pups

Can it be done? I thought I'd read somewhere that it couldn't be done, then I saw EMG had one that could be.

I'm still trying to decide whether to go with JB(b) & PG(n), P-Rails both, JB(b) & P-Rail(n) or Active Pups (like my original) in my 1986 RG530 Ibanez (2) HB Basswood Body w/ Maple Neck and Rosewood FB.

Re: Splitting Active Pups

EMG has had an 89 for awhile that's splittable... it's like an 85 in humbucker mode and a their single coil SA in split mode. They now have an 81TW which I believe is similar to the S single coil in the split mode. I'm not aware of any other active pickups that can be split.

The actives that have a split rely on using a separate preamp for the split mode, so you have to buy ones that are designed to do it (emg 89 and 81TW as far as I am aware). I have an 81TW/89 set in my explorer and love it.
